Giulia [Official] Alfa Romeo Giulia

The Alfa Romeo Giulia is a compact executive car produced by Alfa Romeo. Known internally as the Type 952, it was unveiled in June 2015, with market launch scheduled for February 2016, and it is the first saloon offered by Alfa Romeo after the production of the 159 ended in 2011.
Mah, I can't see it.

Me too ... but I bought the magazine today ;)

Summary (Giulia had ZF8HP Transmission and carbon ceramics):
  • Straight line Performance was very good! 0-100/0-200 3,8/12,3
  • This is AMG C63 S Level (although up to 280, the Giulia loses 8 seconds to the AMG 39 to 30,4s! Has Giulia that bad aerodynamics???))
  • Engine is mighty and responsive
  • QV was equipped with the PZero Corsa Assymetrico. A mixture between high Performance tire like Michelin PSS/normal PZero and a true semi Slick.
  • Tracktime at Sachsenring was 1:37,37 - 0,3s slower than the 431hp M3 (sidenote: Wheather conditions were suboptimal. Dry but only 6 degrees Celsius, which might help engine power but not traction)
  • Automatic ZF Transmission quite fast - even compared to other car models equipped with this tranny!
  • Weight: 1675kg! (50kg more than M3/M4) Quite a let-down after all info about Aluminium and carbon usage.
  • Testdriver Manuel Iglisch rated its handling/driving Dynamics high, but clearly expressed, that it is not yet on par with M3/M4

A somewhat let-down was the quality side (test car had 10000 Kilometers - hope that this is a single case as Alfa customers have struggled for long time with Alfa Quality issues):
  • A-pillar casing fallen down
  • clear coat of the Interieur carbon decor dispersed
  • blistering of paint on the rear fenders

There is no less carbon or aluminum or carbon in M3/M4, no AFAIK. The whole story about Giulia is about base model, same suspension, aluminium for them also, same track width...

And what we know is that Giulia Q with its TV rear differential loves fast corners. IMO, a track like Sachsenring, at least a first part of it, is not a very good choice. There is a reason why it excelled at Red Bull Ring.

Again info on the 350hp version:

UPDATE: Alfa Romeo Working On Hot Giulia With 350 PS 2.0-liter Turbo Engine

The first time we reported about the Giulia’s engine options, the most potent 2.0-liter engine of the lot came in the form of the GME T4 with 280 PS (276 hp) and 470 Nm (346 lb-ft) of torque. Indeed, it’s the same engine you might find in the Giulia Veloce. Even so, there’s an even hotter Giulia model on the horizon.

Slated to take on the likes of the 2017 Audi S4 quattro, 2017 Mercedes-AMG C43 4Matic, and 2017 BMW 340i xDrive, the peeps over at Alfa Romeo are working on a 350 PS (345 hp) variant of the 2.0-powered Giulia. Coming courtesy of the FCA parts website for the Dutch market, the featured pic shows what’s what: “Vermogen” is power, “350 PK” is the metric horsepower.

Discovered by Squadra Tuning, a tuning shop that took the 2.2-liter diesel-powered Giulia to the extreme with a simple ECU remapping, there’s nothing else the screenshot reveals about the hot Giulia, not even how it will be called. Another question mark is whether the go-faster model will be available with a manual transmission. Oh, and another thing: the most hardcore Giulia fans out there are rooting for a rear-wheel-driven sub-Quadrifoglio model.

But a stick shift and rear-wheel-drive aren’t feasible, chiefly because all direct rivals come as standard with AWD, whereas the 340i xDrive is the only one available with a 6-speed manual. Given the circumstances, I’m betting my two cents on a Giulia whatever-it-will-be-called with an all-wheel-drive layout and the ZF-developed 8-speed automatic transmission we all know and love.

“We are not really intended to spread new facts [on the Giulia]. But this is something we found remarkable,” reads a Facebook post from the Dutch tuning company on the mystery Alfa Romeo Giulia with the 2.0-liter powerplant. “Surfing on the parts site of the Alfa Giulia, we stumbled upon brake discs for the 280 PS model, but also for a Giulia 2.0 TBi with 350 PS.”

UPDATE

An autoevolution reader sent us a document according to which the 350 PS 2.0-liter turbo engine will be available in the Giulia in the U.S., with AWD and an auto. It seems that Alfa Romeo will baptize it the Giulia Veloce.

Unfortunately I wasn't able to start her up or even turn on the electronics. But still!

Very handsome car in the flesh.

Thanks for sharing. Have you timed the 0-280 based on the speedo scales or did you calculate in the difference between real/gps speed and display on speedo? :eusa_thin

according to Quattroruote, the discrepancy between the real speed and the speedo is just 0,8%.
So considering this, I checked several times and I was never able to get 39sec from 0 to 280. I know this is just a video on youtube so nothing scientific but try and check by yourself. And this car according to the tester was even slow compared to official numbers...and it is manual I would add..

Hm. Interesting! What is the meaning of text displayed at the end of the video then? Something like 297,7 km/h GPS vs 307?? What was the intended message?:dazed053:

the real difference, just in case of no wind involved during this test, was for two times 297,7 (and 297,8 to be precise) km/h vs 302 indicated speed and the car should have reached the 307 as declared. In this particular car the error of the tacho seems to be 1,4% at top speed. You ask about the meaning of that text? that BMW is better of course..(n)

No pun intended ;)
I really wasn't sure, what the guy doing this video wanted exactly to tell with that text snippets...
Now, if I got you, the Alfa should run 307 topspeed (as per spec?) And he complained that it only run 303?
Or was it just a remark, that topspeed should be 307 as per speedo (whatever this would be according to GPS?)

There are better ways to measure top speed than with GPS.

But I can't help felling that they just wanted to discredit Giulia.
