Range Rover 2012 (L405) Range Rover spy pics

The Land Rover Range Rover, generally shortened to Range Rover, is a 4x4 luxury SUV produced by Land Rover, a marque and sub-brand of Jaguar Land Rover. The Range Rover line has been in production since it was launched in 1970 by British Leyland. Additional models have been launched under the Range Rover name, including the Range Rover Sport, Range Rover Evoque, and Range Rover Velar.
The Evoque is a mighty stunning car and has an exciting promise of what's ahead. Finally we'll see a successor of the current generation Range Rover instead of yet another facelift.

I think with Range Rover you cannot take it out of it's comfort zone . That means more evolutionary than evoque revolutinary. This looks like a stealthy update of the current car but in the shape especially at the rear I see shades of the first Range Rover especially with the dramatic slope at the C-Pillar.

Next-Generation Range Rover Due in 2012

Just the Facts:
  • A replacement for Land Rover's flagship Range Rover is due next year.
  • The current design will be 10 years old in 2012.
  • The next Range Rover will borrow styling cues from the smaller Evoque.

LONDON — A replacement for Land Rover's flagship Range Rover is due next year, when the current design will be 10 years old. As part of a major overhaul, the fourth-generation model will move even further upmarket than today's Range Rover.

Company sources tell Inside Line the next-generation Range Rover will soften its traditional boxy look and borrow styling cues from the recently launched Evoque.

Expect the Range Rover's 2012 successor to retain the "floating" roof, but the parallel lines that make up the upper and lower side window lines will converge, as they do on the Evoque. One insider also says the windshield will be "faster" — in other words, a bit more raked.

Also look for higher base pricing, and a design and platform that can stretch to far higher levels, with conviction, than today — potentially up to $200,000 or more.

In the U.S., the current Range Rover is priced from around $80,000, with the top-of-the-line Autobiography edition fetching as much as $130,000 with custom paint and other accessories.

Inside Line says: Land Rover executives are quite aware of Bentley's plans to launch a premium SUV off the Cayenne/Touareg platform, and plan to be ready for it.

I totally agree with you. It is something that doesn't have much room for change, simply because of tradition and how they have updated the car. Perhaps something so revolutionary would break the line or detract from the consumer. Who knows.

This, based on what I can tell from the camo, looks practically the same.

These luxury trucks are exactly the reason why I want Mercedes to do a true G replacement, a wheels-up, bespoke truck with no interior or exterior similarities to the ML/GL/R group of vehicles. Make a true off-roading S-Class type vehicle, like the RR is and stick a 100K and up price on it.

A bit off topic, but I agree completely. :D The G-Wagen is one of the most menacing cars on the road and definitely one of the best-looking SUVs. Last time the kill-off was aborted because of fan protest, perhaps the same will happen this time?
I really wish they would put out a new version, maybe just stuffing the W221 interior into the body of the current G, that's all we need.

The Range Rover moving further upmarket, differentiating itself from the Cayenne/X5/M-Class crowd, will only enhance the appeal of this car. Expect this to be the first true luxury SUV, appealing to the likes of S-Class and 7 Series buyers.

Uh oh, a new Rover. This is a huge deal in the automotive industry, as this car is like the "SL of Trucks" in quite a few ways (must be very evolutionary, actually much much more-so than the SL, which hasn't been too evolutionary for some time, and it must remain strong on the market for a very long time).

It looks like the current one, which is good. They need to protect and maintain the blood-line very thickly. I'd love to see elements of Gen-1 again, and I agree with Scott about the stark resemblance of the sweeping C-Pillar.

Hopefully they can finally get the quality right on an RR launch for once, as well.

Does anyone know how much bigger this will be over it's predecessor? what about a 7 seater option?

It looks so heavy. I can't wait to see it. Hopefully they have addressed the 2 biggest problems - reliability and weight. Make it lightweight and more reliable w/killer engines and interior and you've got a winner. It already holds the top spot for most buyers, but its time to get the quality up to the prestige of the name.

The aluminium body should sort the weight issue out. I think reliability is the only thing that puts some buyer off...especially those used to German build quality...fingers crossed though it certainly looks promising...

I hope those pics are real deal or at least close to the real deal.

Could it be, but I can already spot one difference in the latest spy pics. The shoulder line is now under the door handles, in the same way than in the Evoque.
