M2 2016 BMW M2 Reviews

The BMW M2 is a high-performance version of the BMW 2 Series automobile developed by BMW's motorsport division, BMW M GmbH. As the 2 Series replaced the 1 Series coupé and convertible models, the first-generation M2 was marketed as the most basic M model in the range. Official website: BMW M

Unlike the earlier 1-series M Coupé, which acted as a forerunner to today’s line-up of BMW M Performance models, the M2 is acknowledged as a fully fledged M-car.

Here is our review, what an amazing car to drive! I have (Horatiu) an 1M and while it has a different feel and purpose, it's very much so fun to drive.

Another 4.5 star review for the M2 - this time from Bovvers at EVO:

So much praise but no 5 star rating?

Autoexpress did gave it 5 stars
New BMW M2 Coupe 2016 review

The M2 has been the most hyped car of 2016, but we can confirm it was worthy of such high expectations. Comparisons with BMW icons such as the 2002 Turbo and E30 M3 are inevitable and justified, as they are with the current M4 that the new car shares so much with. But the M2 is a very different beast. It’s sensational to drive, yet accessible, too. It eclipses its rivals from Audi and Mercedes, instead drawing comparison with cars like the Porsche Cayman.

So much praise but no 5 star rating?

Unless the steering really is full of feedback, EVO will never give a car a five star rating. This lack of feedback is common now in upper end cars. Only Porsche seems to get it right with some - not all - models.

Also, the lack of a truly special cabin will see the car docked for points which is a shame - all other things being considered...

Autocar seem to like the steering

The uniquely tuned electro-mechanical steering is reasonably light at lower speeds, imbuing the M2 with a likable ease of manouverability and responsive nature around town. However, the speed-sensitive system weights up markedly as speeds increase, providing a genuinely meaty feel when pushing along more challenging roads.

There is an immediate sharpness and a good deal of feedback just off centre, allowing you to place the compact two door with great precision, but despite the alertness, it never feels darty. Rather, there’s satisfying clarity to the way this latest M-car changes direction.

Don't skip down to the conclusions, because I'll save you the trouble and spell it out for you right here. The 2016 BMW M2 is superb.

And this little coupe is at its best being driven hard. Precise body control, well-weighted steering, super-strong confident brakes, and a nicely coordinated six-speed manual gearbox are all here, in check. As are all the right performance-car sounds.

What’s so special?
The handling. It’s just superb. For a start, you don’t have to be going bonkers-fast to feel what the M2 is up to. It’s up-for-it and chatting with you all the time.

So a Focus RS with worse interior than M2 deserve a 5 star rating from EVO. I guess it's the better steering in Focus RS that makes up for it :D

It's a great car, tough to find faults and believe me, I looked for them especially since we have to stay away from the bias angle. Unless you count the last tenth of a second, the car is more than potent for 99% of the people. And super fun to drive.

One thing I wish it had was the ability to disable revv-matching, aside from turning off the traction control.

Looks great in black. I would like to see more photo's in white. Really good news to read that the steering is quite good, I hope that translates to the rest of their portfolio......

The U.S. reviews are positively glowing. I have just one questions, will there be a M2 Cabriolet? Car looks short and rough like a pit bull and ready to devour the road. Another winner from BMW.

Sounds good to my ears

Oh God, that black looks gorgeous. Black kidney grills, and wing trims would be the icing on the cake. Do I change my order from Long Beach Blue to black?

BMW M

BMW M GmbH, formerly known as BMW Motorsport GmbH, is a subsidiary of BMW AG that manufactures high-performance luxury cars. BMW M ("M" for "motorsport") was initially created to facilitate BMW's racing program, which was very successful in the 1960s and 1970s. As time passed, BMW M began to supplement BMW's vehicle portfolio with specially modified higher trim models, for which they are now most known by the general public. These M-badged cars traditionally include modified engines, transmissions, suspensions, interior trims, aerodynamics, and exterior modifications to set them apart from their counterparts. All M models are tested and tuned at BMW's private facility at the Nürburgring racing circuit in Germany.
