With the Golf R receiving raving reviews about how it drives, especially compared to its bigger brother, the S3, Volkswagen is about to unveil yet another powerful version of the Golf, this time with 400 horsepower, as the R400 name suggests. What we know for the Beijing Motor Show-bound Golf R400, is that its power will be transmitted to all four wheels through a dual-clutch gearbox and the final product will be capable of acceleration to 100 km/h in just 3.9 seconds.
Extensive body and bumper modifications will differentiate the R400 from the lesser powered versions of the 7th generation Golf. Drawing inspiration from the 1988 Rallye Golf G60, the wheelarches will be boldly flared and the reworked interior will feature motorsport shell seats with integral head restraints and belt openings. The 'Silver Flake' metallic paint will contrast the gloss black roof and carbon door mirror caps of the concept car.
Alongside the Golf R400, VW plans to show us what they like to call, the "New Midsize Coupe", essentially a four-door coupe of the Passat class, yet shorter compared to both the Passat and Jetta (the concept measures 4,597 mm of length), yet lower in height (1,422 mm) and wider (1,838 mm). The 220 hp four-cylinder TSI engine powered concept car will be fully unveiled in just a few days, at the 2014 Beijing International Motor Show.
