These cars are different and don't compete. If anything a 8er GranCoupe will be BMW's closest rival to the A the same way the 6GC has.

This A7 just makes the disastrous 6GT even more pathetic. I can see the point AUDI has with this car (a premium and better looking A6), but it's hart to find any reason for the existance of this ugly BMW. All the advantages that it has against the 5er are even more present at the X5 and with the small numbers (app 20k per year) is hard to believe that it brings huge profit above it's R&D expenses

Neither are exactly good looking. I'll excuse the proportions of the 6GT because the practicality they offer is part of the cars reason for being - if you gave the Audi the additional interior space that the 6-er has, it'll look a bit odd too... however I still think the detailing and styling of the 6GT is highly questionable, particularly at the front, and definatley the sport/M-sport versions. New A7 looks worse than the old one.

Is this a joke? The new Audi A7 totally annihilates that useless BMW Vectra on steroids that isn't a GT

I don't know when will people stop comparing these two.
And it will happen again in a few weeks when the CLS comes out.
The only thing that these two have in common, is the large hatch. That's it.
As some here already pointed out, the 6series GranCoupe is a direct competitor. Nobody looking for a spacious interior would ever consider an A7, a 6 GranCuope, a CLS or even a Panamera. Defferent Segment.

All I know is, the guy who designed that 6er GT is a frikken legend. :sneaky:
It must be the one of the most difficult concepts to style given the innately unwieldy proportions borne, in turn, out of necessity to satisfy the capaciousness brief.

Should BMW product decision makers actually greenlight the 8 series Gran Coupe (I realize that a development code exists, but information regarding the cars' production remains cryptic at best), we should be in store for something very special.

I presume that an 8er GC will be aiming at a segment positioned somewhat higher than Audis' A7 is situated. "Panamera-ish" perhaps ? Closer to an imaginative 4 door Bentley Conti GT ? The possibility of an M860i ?

Whatever, most recent prototype photographs of the 8 series (and especially the M8) are highly promising and envisioning a translation into the form of a 4 door GT is exciting. What a grand time for the 4 door coupe segment !

That’s my thinking as well if 8GC should come to fruitation would be positioned above the A7 and CLS,hence I agree with Scott, no matter how ungainly you might think the 6GT is, its the competitor to the A7. Both occupying the middle ground , 7er >6GT>5er and A8 >A7>A6.

The only real competitor the A7 will have is the CLS from MB and the Mission E from Porsche. I doubt BMW is going to offer an A7 alternative in the medium term.

Having said this, I would take a G30 5er over this new A7 every day of the week.
