Audi R8: Comparison against Nissan GT-R by TopGear, performed in Japan

Once again, fast ≠ fun...

Efficiency and driver satisfaction does not always go hand in hand and if the R8 is more fun to drive I think it is my choice even if it is not as fast as the GT-R.

"...While we believe comparing a true luxury performance car against some piece of metal held together by a nice engine doesn't fit, you might think different and enjoy reading this article." The German Car Blog.

Typical back-handed compliment by the Germans. They still think Germany is the centre of the universe. Remember the sneers and chuckles when Toyota announced their intention to build the Lexus? And how long did it take for DB & BMW to catch up? Remember BMW recently announcing The World's First Twin Turbo Straight Six? (ignoring the long line of Skylines, just for starters).

Pah! Cultural Imperialism still lives on.

Thanks for the great article. Every time I read about the GTR, I love it even more. I always read about how the R8 is stable and easy to drive, but if the GTR makes it look nervous and slow, gives you an idea about how good the GTR should be. Kudos to Nissan for beating the Germans at their own game.

Well, Lexus still hasn't caught up...

Well, you are entilted to your opinion, but it would be foolish to ignore some of Lexus' vehicles; not only vehicles such as the IS-F (which has been very highly regarded) and LS460, but some of the original Lexus such as the LS400 and SC400. The latter of which were not only impressive for their time, but are even by today standards. The LS400 for instance, set a new benchmark in sound insolation and quiet cruising. The SC400 meanwhile, is often accredited for spawning certain design cues in a number of vehicles down the road.

But then again, what do I know? I'm just a Lexus fanboy.

Hummm i thought Top gear did comparison against the nissan syklinr gt-r, Ferrari 430 scuderia and the Porshche 997 turbo????:t-hands:

No doubt has Lexus come a long way since the original IS200 and LS400 but I think it shows pretty well that the cars were/are designed with the american market in mind and that does not always work too well in Europe.

But then again, what do I know? I'm just a Lexus not-my-taste-boy. :D

Fair enough, and I agree.
