Looking for a good(fast, featured) Blu Ray player for Christmas gift. Vibe I am getting from people and the interwebs is that the PS3 Slim is actually one of the best out there. Anyone here have any input on that, it seems rather expensive compared to some others Ive been looking at. A lot of you guys have lots of gadgets so I figured you'd have some advice.

$300 is pushing the top of my budget fwiw.

I have one, and in my opinion it's the best Multi media player out there.:t-cheers:

Here are some you could consider: Blu-ray player reviews and Blu-ray player Best Buys - from the experts at whathifi.com

Sony BDP-S570 had made it on at least three four recommendation/award lists:

EDIT: I forgot the What Hifi Award.

Thanks guys ultimately went with the PS3 Slim, found one for $270 new at a local electronics store.

Good choice. The PS3 offer best value thanks to it's upgradability. Although it doesn't offer the best sound or best picture it's serves its purpose well for most households which aren't pedantic about their movie experience. I use the optical drive inside my laptop to watch BluRay films through HDMI and it works well.

I'd say most people needs to rebuild their cinema room before the sound quality of the PS3 becomes a limiting factor.
