Videos BMW M4 CS vs Porsche 911 GTS

There is one thing BMW is better than Porsche, its the styling. IMO of curse ;)

Absolutely, that’s but what a kept on thinking while watching the video. Can’t deny though the 911 GTS is a defining sport car.

The 911 is one of the most iconic and best looking sports cars around, and I would take a base 911 over this M4 CS.

And this is coming from an M4 owner.

Out of curiosity, roughly what would the difference in price have been between your M4 and a suitably specified base 911?

Not sure what discounts are available on the 911, but I've just looked at the base price of the cheapest 911 with zero options, and it's around £17,000 more than I paid for my M4, which is pretty much fully-loaded. The Carrera S (with a few choice options) would getting on for around £35,000 more than my M4.

Ok. But I prefer the current M4 design over 911.

I agree with you but looks are always a subjective thing. I've never really felt much for the 911 look bar the well-proportioned 997 GT3RS 4.0 and today's 991 GT3. The rest.....meh but that's just me.

Maybe the M4 cannot outperform the 911, but this video shows that the BMW can punch above its weight, as you won't see its direct competition being put against the Porsche. Some may argue that BMW doesn't have a dedicated sports car as a direct rival, whereas Audi has the R8 and the Mercedes has the GT, but both of these cars are strict two seaters, while the Porsche does have a backseat, even though it is not that practical.

I hate repeating myself, but I DO hope that someday, BMW will evolve the M range into cars with a "based-on" philosophy. I imagine that a front-mid engine, transaxle M4 with even more aggressive and distinctive bodywork will be awesome, unique, and can easily go toe to toe with the 911 since the chassis will be optimized for high performance.

Subjectively, the M4 is one of the best looking cars in BMW's lineup, as well as one of the best looking coupes on the market.

I think the M4 looks visually very optimised in the video. It's aggressive and packs testosterone in the right places. In person though, side by side the 911 would stand out more.

CS versions of the M3/M4 are very expensive. If you are serious about performance you can add similar performance upgrades to a standard M4 for less, and have a much fun. On bimmerpost there are lots of guys who have done fantastic aftermarket upgrades to their M4.

I agree that the 911 stands out more, but that could be due to its sporty and unique profile, whereas the M4, or the 4 series in general, is derived from a standard, 3-box design principle, so there is some limitations to the overall shape of the car.

I am an occasional visitor to bimmerpost, and as you mentioned, several M4 owners have done some impressive work on their cars thanks to the huge support of the aftermarket. However, this can bring the usual debate of which is better, factory backed projects or aftermarket?
