I don't think we can compare the M5 with the Panny. It is like comparing the M4 with the 911 Turbo. The Porsches are meant to be sportier.

Let's see what happens when the F90 gets tested against the E63 and the RS6, which are its natural rivals.

Thankyou! The M5 is built on a chassis which houses 2 liters Diesel engines.... It's amazing how these brands like Audi and MB can transform these vehicles into monsters

BMW fans ( read klier) bring that on themselfs, i said it the Panamera is to much for BMW to deal with. But he insists the M5 is the top dog when it comes to everything.
Typical BMW fans, saw a Old 3er wagon the other day, trying to chase down a Nissan GT-R on the highway.. it was so sad. the GT-R driver just let him pass lol.

The Panamera just like the 5-series is built on a chassis that has 3.0ltr 6 cylinder Diesel engines and maybe in future will also have a 2.0ltr Diesel engine. What makes the Porsche more impressive it's a bigger car than the 5-series and even more capable as a sports saloon than the BMW.

The new Panny vs the old M5 you must mean. Yea, highly impressive
The new M5 will take care of that AWD pig, no worries.

The Panny is the M4 in this comparo
A Panamera is not sportier than an M5. Sorry to burst that bubble ;)

Says the other fanboy. Pot calling the kettle. Pathetic. I don't care what you say about the Panamera.
I say the M5 will reign supreme, and in a year we will have the cars tested against eachother to see who was right. And I already know the M5 will be sportier, faster and way cheaper.
The bolded is particularly funny. You think we take your words for gospel or something?

Even more pathetic. Incredible really.

I would not consider the M5 as a rival to the Panamera. I would be more inclined to compare it with the M6 Gran Coupe.

Im not a porsche fanboy..its mercedes..lol
Well last timea around the M5 did NOT reign supreme, in fact it was probably one of the most shitty M5s ever made, bad steering, bad Comfort, pathetic sounding Engine.. this all comes from the car journalists..

What makes you Think the new Panamera will loose against the new M5?
And ofcourse its a cheaper car, its less of a car in every measurable way. From the brand to the materials used.

My Words are not gospel..we have facts that show the Panamera is faster around the N ring:

BMW M5 comp pacakge: 7:54 (575hp)
Panamera Turbo S : 7:52:20 (550hp)

Now to the funny part
BMW E60 you know the one with the V10 : 7:52 (507hp)

Proves my Point that the current M5 was pretty shitty. It actually is slower than the previous one.

Now the new Panamera:
Panamera Turbo G2: 7:38 (550hp)

That is a 14s improvment from G1 to G2.

Why do you really put yourself in this position to be dissappointed? You know and i know that the new one won't be 14s faster than the current, and if it is its still slower than the Panamera.
And then there will be Turbo S version, and a rumored 700hp Hybrid turbo version that laps the ring at 7:27.

Just admit that the last time the M5 was the baddest machine with 4 doors, was back when the E39 ruled, after that its been downhill.

And its ok, its not like they were beaten by some peasants car like mercedes, its still a Porsche, no shame in that..lol.

PS
Oh and the Panamera is a PIG ( your Words)
Larger, heavier, less Power.. and still this result.
You can't F with Porsche Magical Engineering, why don't people understand this?
They made a business out of shaming higher Powered cars, they been doing this since Before you and i was ever thought of.

Never underestimate the Panamera, the previous Turbo with 500PS did 0-100km/h in just 3.9sec (faster than even the 4.2sec of the 600PS 30 jare M5) and 0-200km/h in 13.5sec (only 1sec slower than the 100PS more powerful BMW). Then the Turbo S with 550PS (same as new Turbo) did 3.6sec to 100km/h and 12.2sec to 200km/h (same as 600PS M5 30 Jare edition). The Panamera Turbo/S has also proven to be faster in slalom tests and evasive tests than the M5, so its not an AWD pig but an Usain Bolt pig.

From where do you have this time???
I know all the M Nordschleife times quite well!
This time is totally unreal.
If you cite the ring time of the F10 M5 Comp of germans sport auto supertest, this is sensible as those are times measured within clear/comprehensible conditions.
Then please do compare this time with the comparable ring time measured by sport auto for the E60 M5! And this time was 8:13
So - please do not spread such nonsense times.

I suspect the <8min time is a BTG time, the Sport Auto lap is further/longer isn't it....?

edit: oops, I think the post I was quoting was moved whilst I was posting, sorry.

Not that I want to get into the ridiculousness of comparing penis size Nurburgring lap times, but two of your sources are based on the other one, and the other one is based on nothing but hearsay, or at least, it remains unproven there, and since no-one was able to provide factual evidence for the lap either being BTG or Sport Auto timing, or whether it was limited to 155mph or not.

It seems FAR more sensible to trust times clearly known to be Sport Auto laps... rather than a lap with massive unanswered variables, completed by Stucky (legend), in a pre-production vehicle...

...although even Sport Auto laps aren't necessarily comparable.

Well that's what i found, straight off the list, thought the list was legit. obviously that time is fishy.. so to hell with that, still my point stands when it comes to panamera vs M5.. i just noted that time and it jumped out at me given that it was faster than current generation M5.

I'm sure the boffins at BMW already know the areas which require improvement on the current platform but I wouldn't call the F10 M5 'sad' based on one review above. I can think of plenty occasions when the M5 held its own pretty well.

The Panamera smokes that one to.

I don't think any one here doubts the huge potential of the Panamera's chassis but claiming one car is 'better' than another based purely on the fact that it goes around the Nurburgring quicker is some what naive and delusional. Besides, why put so much emphasis on what a car reviewer prefers instead of driving either two and making up your own mind which one suits you better? Not trying to start an argument, I just disagree with the whole numbers-bashing to justify which is better.

And if it's reviewers' opinions that matter so much, then I can think of at least 3 other occasions when the F10 M5 was preferred over the Panamera; twice in EVO magazine group tests and once in a similar test done by Car UK, albeit the Panny was a hybrid in the latter.

Gotta love the excuses and apologies. Track times meant everything when BMW was fastest on the track. Track times always meant the best car here, but now not so much because BMW isn't the king at the track. BMW has lost their position in every single class they used to be dynamic benchmark, with the possible exception of the M4 vs the rest. Get over it.

Really good reading here.

I think I was trying to get across the point that the 5er is a company executive / family saloon first, track machine second. Whereas the Porche is built up as a genuine sports car, and that 1 diesel variant doesn't really define the car

edit: oops, I think the post I was quoting was moved whilst I was posting, sorry.

The mods should be sorry for moving everything around all the time.

My posts have nothing to do with the old GTS and old M5. I was talking about the next gen M5 and brand new Turbo. We know virtually nothing about these cars yet, but witth my posts moved to some random thread that some mod liked, everything is pulled out of context.

Sad. I'm out. And stop pulling stuff out of context for who is concerned.

And that is just the clueless English press....
Pretty funny, because an M5 utterly destroys a GTS. And I have ample experience in BOTH cars.
