M3/M4 BMW NA releases official pricing for E90/2 M3

The BMW M3 is a high-performance version of the BMW 3 Series, developed by BMW's in-house motorsport division, BMW M GmbH. M3 models have been produced for every generation of 3 Series since the E30 M3 was introduced in 1986. The BMW M4 is a high-performance version of the BMW 4 Series automobile developed by BMW's motorsport division, BMW M, that has been built since 2014. As part of the renumbering that splits the coupé and convertible variants of the 3 Series into the 4 Series, the M4 replaced those variants of the BMW M3. Official website: BMW M

BMW ANNOUNCES PRICING FOR THE ALL-NEW BMW M3 COUPE AND SEDAN AT THE 2008 NORTH AMERICAN INTERNATIONAL AUTO SHOW IN DETROIT
01/13/2008

Woodcliff Lake, NJ - January 13, 2008... During its press conference today at the 2008 North American International Auto Show in Detroit, BMW announced the pricing for the highly anticipated 2008 M3 Coupe and M3 Sedan. When the vehicles go on sale in March, the Coupe will be priced at $57,275 and the Sedan at $54,575. Sharing the high-revving 414-horsepower V8 and balanced chassis designed to be "faster than its engine," this March, BMW M GmbH will offer the most powerful, best performing series production M3s to the North American market.
The all-new 2008 M3 Coupe and M3 Sedan-the fourth generation of compact sport vehicles which set the standard in minimizing any compromises between race-inspired performance and luxury and convenience-feature the first V8 in a series-production BMW M3. They also feature driver-adjustable settings for crucial dynamic controls encompassing engine response, steering, damping and stability (with an available steering-wheel-mounted "MDrive" button to store the preferences) and a sumptuous interior which can be optimized to the driver's desires including the comprehensive entertainment/navigation system operated through BMW's latest iDrive controller.

Additionally, the 2008 M3 Coupe is the first production vehicle in its segment with a carbon fiber reinforced roof. The material shares the same safety properties as steel, but is four times lighter. Weighing around 11 lbs. less than a standard steel roof and approximately 44 lbs. less than a steel roof incorporating a moonroof, the carbon fiber reinforced roof provides significant weight saving at the highest point of the car-lowering the car's center of gravity-to increase agility and responsiveness while limiting dive and roll in turns.

Racing provided the reason for the original M3's 1986 creation as the company had to produce road-going homologation versions of its 3 Series Coupe to enter the motorsports version in the German Touring Car Championship. The original M3's popularity provided the impetus to continue developing the M3, making it both a better performer and more inviting road car. The M3 has continued to evolve along with the underlying 3 Series, the company's most popular, upon which it is based.

In 1987 North Americans received their first taste of the high-rpm, naturally aspirated 2.3-liter four-cylinder M3 Coupe's 192-hp and thus was born a legend on this side of the Atlantic. The next generation arrived in 1995 with a 3.0-liter (and later, 3.2-liter) 240-hp inline-six powerplant. In 1997 the first M3 Sedan joined the family and the first M3 Convertible followed shortly thereafter. The most-recent version, available from 2001-2006 as either a coupe or convertible, again was offered with six-cylinder power, this time providing 333 hp from its 3.2 liters. This vehicle was BMW's first use of SMG (Sequential Manual Gearbox) for the U.S. market.

Pricing is pretty good for the content, especially being a high-performance car. If only they applied the same logic when deciding on pricing for the 1er coupe. :t-banghea

Yeah, very competitive price, not the $65000 that the magazines were predicting. I wonder if we have Lexus to thank for it (they just priced IS_F around the same range couple of days ago).

But why do you feel the 1er is expensive, the 135 is not any more expensive than the Japanese cars with similar numbers or even slower German competition like R32.

I'm going to assume you're talking base price, because once you equip a U.S. spec 135i coupe the price shoots through the roof. They just released pricing for the 135i convertible today and base is $39k. I don't care what badge is up front, I'm not paying $40k or anything near it for a subcompact car. That's ridiculous.

Well, add the same options to the competition and you would get the same price. If anything, I think 135 comes with more standard options. Anyway, the way I want it, 135 comes in just less than 40 grand, and I think I would definitely drop that if I was in the market for a car now.

Re: BMW NA releases offical pricing for E90/2 M3

These cars were going to sell like hotcakes anyway, but this friendly price makes this more so. The Lexus IS actually costs a little more, not that 2K matters in this market segment.

Interesting, but taxes shouldn't be included here because they vary from state to state.

Re: BMW NA releases offical pricing for E90/2 M3

Roughly 10k cheaper then the RS4... but that's only superficial.

I think the base RS4 is better equipped, so once once the M3 is loaded, I'm pretty sure the sticker is just as high as the Audi. Tsk tsk.

Re: BMW NA releases offical pricing for E90/2 M3

Hahaha that is AWESOME! People were speculating that this car will start at $62 and now this shows up. If it's in the same price range as the Lexus, I think they are in big trouble. Very good move by BMW imo

I always expected it to be in the $55-59K range, and frankly speaking I won't be a buyer above $60K.
It is great news indeed.

I thought so too in the beginning but the fact that every magazine thought it would be over 60 almost made me convinced.

The sedan is a hell of a bargain

Doesn't that tell us a lot about the carmags... from being confused about the performance of the car to the inconsistent reviews to bungled price estimates.
I guess they are as good as we are.

Anyway, you are right about the saloon, it is a bargain:D:D:D

Re: BMW NA releases offical pricing for E90/2 M3

BMW NA took a long time before revealing the price. Maybe they were waiting for Lexus to price their IS-F :t-hands:

Re: BMW NA releases offical pricing for E90/2 M3

MSRP is even cheaper!

-M3 Coupe $56,500
-M3 Sedan $53,800

I think the prices in the original post include the destination charge of $775.

Good deal compared to the $56000 for the IS-F. And a steal compared to the $66900 for RS4.

BMW prices M3 coupe, sedan

Highly probable.
With this pricing, I can see 100,000 M3 as being feasible.
Has MB USA released pricing for the C63? It will be interesting to see how they price it.

The other interesting thing about the US M3 price is how close it is priced to the S4/S5.
E90 M3 is approximately $4K more than the S4, with the S4 $10k more than the E90 335xi
E92 M3 is approximately $4.7K more than the S5, with the S5 $9k more than the E92 335xi.

BMW just created more problem for the S4/S5 as it faced with a two-prong attack from BMW: 335i with comparable performance and the M3 with comparable pricing but with RS4/RS5 performance.

Re: BMW NA releases offical pricing for E90/2 M3

Honestly guys, I was losing faith in BMW and was thinking that this car will be very expensive, but now it's settled. This car is definitely affordable-ish and I'm gunning for it in a few years.

Re: BMW NA releases offical pricing for E90/2 M3

Very good prices indeed and as chonka points out BMW has made a clear positioning for the M3.

Yeah, I think Audi is going to have a tough time moving a significant number of S5 in the US.

Also it would be interesting how Mercedes would price C63, considering the C55 already had a MSRP of around $54000 I believe.

Re: BMW NA releases offical pricing for E90/2 M3

I think Audi's problem with the S5 is going to be their usual low-volume/poor image/poor promotion problem than anything else. There is room for both the S5 and the M3 to thrive, but for some reason a lot of folks just won't put Audi on their list, which is a disgrace.

I expect Mercedes to take their usual high (priced) road and put the C63 over the M3 and IS-F, but below the RS4 which really looked grossly overpriced now.

BMW M

BMW M GmbH, formerly known as BMW Motorsport GmbH, is a subsidiary of BMW AG that manufactures high-performance luxury cars. BMW M ("M" for "motorsport") was initially created to facilitate BMW's racing program, which was very successful in the 1960s and 1970s. As time passed, BMW M began to supplement BMW's vehicle portfolio with specially modified higher trim models, for which they are now most known by the general public. These M-badged cars traditionally include modified engines, transmissions, suspensions, interior trims, aerodynamics, and exterior modifications to set them apart from their counterparts. All M models are tested and tuned at BMW's private facility at the Nürburgring racing circuit in Germany.
