X3/X4 BMW X3 (G01) - Spy Pics & Info

The BMW X3 is an SUV manufactured by BMW since 2003, based on the BMW 3 Series platform. Now in its fourth generation, BMW markets the car as a Sports Activity Vehicle, the company's proprietary descriptor for its X-line luxury vehicles. The BMW X4 is a compact luxury crossover SUV manufactured by BMW since 2014. The X4 is widely considered as a "coupé" version of the X3, trading its practicality with a sloping rear roof which offers a sportier styling. BMW has indicated 2025 will be the X4's final model year.

There was list of future models in Autonews site:

Here are BMW's new-product highlights.

Active Tourer: The compact fwd crossover expected in early 2015 will be the first BMW-badged vehicle off the new platform being shared with Mini. It will take styling cues from the concept shown at last year's Paris auto show.

1 series: A sedan being considered would use the new fwd platform. If approved, it would go on sale in 2017 at the earliest.

2 series: The redesigned 1-series coupe and convertible will have new sportier styling and will be renamed the 2 series. The coupe will go on sale in March, the convertible six months later.

Also said to be under consideration are a Gran Coupe, an M Gran Coupe and a sedan with coupe styling.

3 series: The five-door Gran Turismo hatchback version of the 3 series goes on sale in September. Styling is similar to the larger 5-series Gran Turismo.

The Gran Turismo is 8 inches longer than the sedan at 182.5 inches, with a wheelbase that is 4 inches longer at 115 inches. It also is 3 inches taller at 59.4 inches.

The redesigned M3 high-performance model goes on sale in early 2014.

4 series: The redesigned 3-series coupe, which has been renamed the 4 series, goes on sale in October. The two-door has a sportier look and more premium feel than the sedan. The 4-series convertible debuts in early 2014.

A 4-series Gran Coupe model similar to the new 6-series Gran Coupe is expected in the fall of 2014.

5 series: The freshened sedan goes on sale this month with an updated V-8 engine and a new diesel variant: the new 535d with a twin-turbo 255 hp engine. The sedan and the GT will be re-engineered in 2017.

5-series Gran Turismo: The freshened five-door hatchback goes on sale this month. It has an additional 2 cubic feet of luggage capacity.

6 series: No changes are expected for the next few years.

7 series: BMW will replace its flagship in early 2016 and move from an all-steel to a carbon-and-aluminum body to reduce weight and make the sedan more agile.

The new generation will have a 50-state clean diesel, a plug-in hybrid and possibly a four-cylinder engine that may not be available in the United States. BMW is considering a high-performance all-wheel-drive M version of the 7 series for the first time, primarily for the United States, to compete with the Mercedes-Benz AMG S-class sedan.

8 series: BMW is considering a range-topping coupe to compete with new Mercedes-Benz S-class variants. The four-seat Pininfarina Gran Lusso Coupe on display this summer hints at the vehicle under discussion. The Gran Lusso is based on a modified rwd BMW 7-series platform and powered by the 760i's 6.0-liter, 536-hp turbocharged V-12. It has BMW design elements, including a sweeping silhouette, long hood and short trunk lid. BMW produced an 8 series from 1989 to 1999.

Toyota/BMW sports car: The two companies have agreed to work on a sports car, with each doing its own exterior. According to an insider, BMW is considering using the platform for a successor to the Z4 roadster. Talks between the two companies will continue through year end.

Z4: The two-seater will be redesigned in 2016. The timetable and design depend on whether BMW does the car alone or uses the joint platform developed with Toyota.

X1: The 1-series-based crossover will be redesigned in 2015 using BMW's new fwd platform.

X3: The crossover will be freshened in early 2016.

X4: BMW is adding a fifth crossover to its range to fill the gap between the X3 and the X5. The new coupelike X4 will debut either at the Los Angeles or Detroit auto show and go on sale by mid-2014. It will have the lower roofline and coupe styling of the larger X6 and be available with BMW's xDrive awd system.

X5: A redesigned version of the X5, BMW's largest crossover, goes on sale later this year. For the first time, BMW will offer an optional rwd variant -- the sDrive35i -- in addition to all-wheel drive. The rwd model will be powered by BMW's 3.0-liter twin-turbo inline six-cylinder engine, which delivers 300 hp.

BMW decided not to make the X5 big enough for a third row of seats because a larger and heavier crossover would not allow the agility of today's model. The X5 has been lengthened by 1.3 inches to 192.4 inches, and height is increased by 0.6 inches, to 69.4 inches. Width remains the same at 76 inches; also unchanged is the 115.5-inch wheelbase.

X6: The crossover with coupe styling will be redesigned in early 2015, growing a few inches in the process. It will use the platform of the new-generation X5.

i3: The four-seat, rwd, electric car goes on sale in the second quarter of 2014. The i3's five-door exterior will be made of carbon fiber. The compact is powered by a 170-hp electric motor and will have a range of 80 to 100 miles on a charge.

BMW will offer an optional two-cylinder 0.65-liter engine range extender with a three-gallon gasoline tank to keep the car running after the battery range is depleted.

i8: The plug-in hybrid sports car debuts in mid-2014. It will use a modified electric drive system from the i3 that is fitted over the front axle, as well as a 1.5-liter three-cylinder internal combustion engine capable of 220 hp.

For BMW, new compacts and crossovers

According to the article new X3 is coming already 2016.

I am not sure if design work has been completed or finalised but the media have started with their crystal ball.
Perhaps a tad F15itis.
Although I guess they will use familiar X3 design elements.

Dear Scott,

One question remains unanswered: Will there be an X3M version with the facefilt in 2014? Or does BMW consider that Alpina has done the job of M Gmbh with their XD3?

The head of M denied it at the 2012 Geneva motor show, Google "Nitschke X3M interview ".

But they are thinking to do the X4M as Scott27 mentionned in his thread:
Chasing the Tiger... The BMW X4M.

Audi have the SQ5
Porsche will have the Macan Turbo
Range Rover Evoque should soon get an RS badge
Mercedes have only the AMG outfit for the glk.

So why M GmbH or BMW marketing does not agree with a X3M? what do they fear? It's not that I don't like the idea of the X4M, but the X3 has an higher volume trunk and the load ability of the trunk is more suitable for my use.

The SQ5 is not the equivalent of the X3M. I expect at some point there will be an M Performance version of the X3. Maybe launched around facelift time. That will be the equivalent of the SQ5.

Upcoming 2017 BMW G01 X3 to Get M40i Version

A new chapter in BMW’s history will be written when the upcoming X3 model will come out. There’s still plenty of time to pass until that happens as the current F25 model received a facelift this year but we are already hearing good things.

While the X1 and X5 models represent the extremes of the SUV range in BMW’s line-up, the X3 starts becoming more and more popular, offering the better of two worlds. It’s not as big as the X5 or as small as the X1 but rather fits perfectly in between the two.

The new model, codenamed G01 will grow in size but only inside. The exterior dimensions should remain basically the same but inside we should get a bit more space in all the essential places: headroom, legroom and the boot.

New engines animate the range

While the chassis will be modular and shared with other models, like the upcoming X4 for example, the same will be done with the engine line-up. They will be part of the B family and range from 2-liter 4-cylinder mills to 3-liter 6-cylinder ones.

There will also be a hybrid version that will use the same recipe as the X5 eDrive. Using a 2-liter 4-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine and an electric motor, the total output is expected to be around 300 HP and 650 Nm (479 lb-ft) of torque. This format will also need batteries that will add to the weight of the car.

Electric range should be around 50 km (30 miles) with the car being capable of going up to 120 km/h (75 mph) on electric power alone. Charging the batteries could be done with a cord, in the traditional way and cordless, using new technology already developed for the i3.

M Performance and a true M model

As we reported earlier, the X4 will be getting an M40i version which will be an M Performance Automobile. It’s going to be powered by a 360 HP engine that will also be used on the M2. However, the same plant will be introduced on the new X3 when launched in 2017-2018.

On top of that, according to AutoBild, there’s an X3 M version in the works that we should be expecting, that’s going to use the S55 engine from the M3 and M4 models. It’s going to be interesting to see it connected to all-wheel drive and a 7-speed DCT or the new 8-speed M Steptronic from the X5 M and X6 M models.

Upcoming 2017 BMW G01 X3 to Get M40i Version

It looks pretty much like the current X3 in terms of proportions and side profile. The AB render seems to be spot on in some areas we can already see on this mule: The overall shape of the car, and the lower front bumper.

I hope AB is wrong about both the headlights and the rearlights.

Doesn't look alot different to the current model except for the grill and headlights, I reckon its going to be like the X5 and X6 and just a gentle evolution and modernizing of the current model. The front grill and lights looks a little from upright than the current model, the lights particular are not than raked,
