X5 M / X6 M BMW X5 M (& X6 M) US Pricing Leak

The X5 M is the high-performance variant of the X5. In April 2009, the X6 M version was announced, with a 408 kW (547 hp) version of the BMW S63 4.4-litre twin-turbo V8 engine. The BMW X5 M and X6 M are the first vehicles from BMW M GmbH to have xDrive all-wheel-drive system and automatic transmissions, and are also crossovers as opposed to passenger cars.

From BMW?s X5 M and X6 M U.S pricing leak!

According to BimmerFile, German-based BMW has unofficially priced its latest M-powered models, the BMW X5 M and the BMW X6 M for the U.S market. Based on the leaked information, BMW has priced the slightly more modest X5 M at US$ 85,400, while the more sexy looking X6 M can be fetched for US$ 88,900, which is about US$ 3,000 more than the 5. However, these prices are set for the base line models, as you can expect the prices to rise with more optional features.

Both high performance SUV’s are powered by the same 4.4 liter twin turbo V8 that is able to crank out 555HP between 5,750rpm to 6,000rpm and put out 680Nm of torque between 1,500rpm to 5,650rpm. The engine which is officially called the M TwinPower Turbo engine is able to pull both models to 100 km/h in 4.7 seconds, all the way up to an electronically limited top speed of 250 km/h. Actual release from BMW:

Woodcliff Lake, NJ - April 27, 2009... On the occasion of the world debut of the BMW X5 M at the Shanghai International Auto Show, BMW today announced U.S. retail pricing for both the X5 M and the X6 M. The X6 M was unveiled for the first time at the New York International Auto Show on April 8th.

When the X5 M and X6 M go on sale this fall as 2010 model vehicles, they will retail for $86,225 and $89,725 respectively (including $825 Destination & Handling).

Both the BMW X5 M and X6 M feature a new reverse flow V8 engine with patented twin-turbo technology. The lag-eliminating Cylinder-bank Comprehensive Manifold (CCM) enables the engine to produce 555 horsepower and accelerate both models from 0 to 60mph in 4.5 seconds. At BMW M, “the chassis must always be more powerful than the engine.” The X5 M and X6 M exploit the limits of physics through their reworked Integrated Chassis Management systems to provide maximum road-holding without conceding to harsh ride characteristics.

Power is delivered through an M derivative of BMW’s xDrive all-wheel drive, allowing M typical throttle-steering. At the rear axle is BMW’s revolutionary Dynamic Performance Control, tailored by BMW M to ensure near-perfect distribution of power. Four M-characteristic tailpipes emerge from the aerodynamic diffuser in the rear. Enormous brakes round out the package, providing confidence under all conditions.

The modern, sustainable legacy of BMW M began in 1985 when engineers placed the snarling, race-bred inline-6 engine from the M1 supercar into the production BMW 5 Series sedan, reworked the suspension and brakes, and created BMW’s first M5. The M5 redefined the capabilities of a sedan with levels of power, precision, and linear control never before imaginable. Ever since, the craftsmen at BMW M have been focused on finding new ways to expand the performance boundaries using existing BMW models as a basis.

Additional information, videos and photographs of both the X5 M and X6 M are available at BMWUSANews.com.

Isn't the M 4.4 V8 with 555 hp a single turbo with twin scroll, like the new N55 3.0 I6??????

No. S63 engine is - just like N64 - a 4.4l TWIN-turbo (two turbochargers) - yet both featuring TwinScroll system. So, they are TwinScroll Twin Turbos - while N55 is TwinScroll (Single) Turbo.

Yet - to make an even bigger mess - BMW started to label all petrol turbo engines "TwinPower Turbo". In the case of two turbo chargers, or only TwinScroll system on board (and just a single turbocharger), or even both ... only one name is used: TwinPower Turbo. :t-banghea

Not even the same turbochargers ... N55 one is made by BorgWarner, N54 turbos are by Mitsubishi, while the ones in N64, S63 & N74 engines are made by Garrett.

:t-cheers:

Good. I think I know everything now!

N54 = twin turbo, no scroll turbo
N55 = single turbo, twin scroll
N64 = twin turbo, twin scroll
S64 = twin turbo, twin scroll

:cool:

N74....let me guess.....V12??? Twin turbo, twin scroll?

N64 doesn't feature TwinScroll tech. Nor does TwinTurbo V12 - code N74.

While S64 doesn't exist. :usa7uh:
S63 is the engine featured in X5M / X6M - with TwinTurbo TwinScroll.

So, your list should be:

N54 = 3.0L I6 twin turbo, no twin scroll
N55 = 3.0L I6 single turbo, with twin scroll, VALVETRONIC
N64 = 4.4L V8 twin turbo, no twin scroll
S63 = 4.4L V8 twin turbo, with twin scroll
N74 = 6.0L V12 twin turbo, no twin scroll

All engines feature HPI direct injection though.

While all diesel engines feature single turbo with variable turbine geometry - except for M57 3.0L I6 (35d) & N47 2.0L I4 (23d) with Variable (sequential) Twin Turbos.

And there is also Prince petrol engine from MINI 1.6L I4 single turbo, with twin scroll.

So, quite some recent turbo opus from BMW. :t-cheers:

A little correction as there's no N64 either:

N54 = 3.0L I6 twin turbo, no twin scroll
N55 = 3.0L I6 single turbo, with twin scroll, VALVETRONIC
N63 = 4.4L V8 twin turbo, no twin scroll
S63 = 4.4L V8 twin turbo, with twin scroll
N74 = 6.0L V12 twin turbo, no twin scroll

Best regards,
south

BMW M

BMW M GmbH, formerly known as BMW Motorsport GmbH, is a subsidiary of BMW AG that manufactures high-performance luxury cars. BMW M ("M" for "motorsport") was initially created to facilitate BMW's racing program, which was very successful in the 1960s and 1970s. As time passed, BMW M began to supplement BMW's vehicle portfolio with specially modified higher trim models, for which they are now most known by the general public. These M-badged cars traditionally include modified engines, transmissions, suspensions, interior trims, aerodynamics, and exterior modifications to set them apart from their counterparts. All M models are tested and tuned at BMW's private facility at the Nürburgring racing circuit in Germany.
