I have been following this group closely for a long time, and the advances they have made is simply mind blowing. Science fiction is becoming reality sooner than we think.

I half expected the robot to punch him, but it got up and left instead. Anyways, cool stuff.

It got up, and then the video cut to the robot near the exit already, the robot probably broke the guy into bits between two footage, and walk away casually.

It's clear that acquisition by Google has allowed the company to develop usable robotics even quicker. The biggest challenge is replicating human movement and this a monumental step forward. The iRobot future is at max 10 years away.

They still don't have hands, which is probably the most difficult part to mimic. If they can do that and that current human mind software simulations really advances, then the next paradigm shift will happen.

True. Without hands a robots can't do something as basic as opening a car door. Hands are challenging because of two reasons:

Motors: There are about 16-18 joints in a hand and they would need to be replicated using small but very fast motors.

Software: Many of the actions we do with our hands are second nature. It's incredible that we can d knitting, typing, massaging or painting with ease. However, many of these skills are learned and all we need to do it to teach one robots, and then replicate it's software across a fleet of other robots.

BD have been making incredible progress. I think Robots are going to play a pivotal role in areas such as space travel, in order for us to become an inter-planetary species. Seeing this kind of progress makes me believe that it may well happen in our lifetime.

The biggest drawback with these future super robots though is that a lot of the man power on earth will become redundant. What will be the use of the human then ? What will become of the class conflict ?

Humans and society as a whole will continue to change, evolve and adapt. Things will change, for better or worse.

Man power is already a bit redundant. Facebook bought whatsapp for $22 billion which had a headcount well under 100. 50 years a ago a company sold for that much wouls be the employer of thousands of people.

The 2nd industrial revolution and has already taken place and that is computing and information technology. The 3rd revolution will be robotics and AI, and boy will it widenow the gap between the rich and poor. However the rich need the poor to have income or else demand for goods will be low.

The future of manual labour is certainly gloomy.

I don't like them, ive been following them. they have a dog robot..
they always kick them or shove them..
somehow i feel bad for the robot.
then i think why i feel bad for it, how come we often feel bad for animals for instance, while we can overlook a human being that is being dealt a bad hand.
its a very wierd side to human nature.

I'm amazed they managed to get anything done with that guy messing about all the time. How has he not been fired, pushing the robots around?

I guess because animals are usually not in a position to defend themselves.
that makes sense, maybe ile stop feeling bad for the robot when its capable to defend itself..
as of now it looks so kind, so i feel bad for it.

or im just a sensetive guy..

edit; human beings that are being treated badly or dealt a bad hand, are often pretty helpless also..hmm

America's lead in artificial intelligence is impressive and extremely intimidating at the same time.

One must not forget that the U.S. military also has full access to these technologies. This is probably one of the reasons why countries like China, Iran, and Russia are holding back on large-scale attacks.
