I guess we have the answer to the question I posed a few days ago, as of this morning's news, courtesy of Reuters. It looks like it's going to be Brilliance selling in the U.S. under it's own brand in substantial numbers and soon.

LINK HERE for the Reuters news item.

Wow. That's very, very soon. Plus, by January 2008, they're going to simultaneously be in the two largest markets in the world (U.S. and Europe) for the first time.

They are ambitious, if nothing else.

and backed by BMW..............;)

Only in China - BMW doesn't have any sort of agreements with them outside of China.

Still, it will be incredibly interesting to see how this all plays out. I cannot wait to look at one of the Brilliance cars in detail. I want to see just where they're at on the learning curve.

Yes true BMW only in China, I am sure BMW have given engineering advice to Brilliance all Western Auto Companies do :D

Brilliance is one of the best but I would so they are at the late Hyundai 1990s stage in terms of safety.

but they are developing their own engines ;)

China Car Times is also a good resource for news and info Brendan ;)

Sorry to bump the old thread, but here's how it (BS6) did on EuroNCAP test:

Absolutely shocking. This is year 2007, not year 1950. I say the Chinese are 50 years behind in terms of car safety development. The passangers will be safer if they are sitting inside a tissue box than sitting in this car.

Unfortunately the pricing is likely to be unbelievably low, and will drive sales despite the obvious shortcommings of the vehicles.

Nevertheless, in time they'll sort themsleves out. And as I've said previously, just like the Koreans learned quicker then the Japanese, the Chinese will learn even faster. Globalisation (R&D sharing, parts sharing etc.) will facilitate this. And soon enough, the Indians will also be in on the act.

Mr. Moore, are you by any chance an Auto Analyst? You're always offering up interesting articles on the 'business' side of the Industry.

I am, although it seems I do it for very little money these days. Doesn't matter, though - I've always followed the industry very closely whether I was getting paid to do so or not. Here is the follow-up we printed in April - go here.

And as mentioned, one of the frequent posters (Bruce McCulloch) on this site is one of my contributing writers - he's does a good job, too.

BTW, always looking for more contributors in terms of writing. If you or anyone you know is interested, contact me and we'll talk about it.

Lastly, drop by the site when you can - lots of interesting articles up, and we also just added a whole new section where people can list their cars for sale online, and most importantly, it is absolutely free.

Belgian dealer axes Brilliance BS6

The first reported dumping of the Brilliance BS6 has taken place in Belgium, where dealer Karel Cardoen has halted sales of the car in the wake of its horryfing crash test conducted by Germany's ADAC. In perhaps the understatement of the year, Automotive News Europe quotes Cardonen as saying, "We don't think this car is good to sell in Europe."

The BS6, for those of you new to the story, is a Chinese luxury sedan and recent arrival into the European automobile market. It recently flunked the ADAC crash tests in spectacular fashion, and In the wake of that fiasco, the automaker said that it didn't feel the poor crash results would have a negative impact on sales.

So much for that. Cardoen's dealership was one of just three that were offering the car to European customers. The remaining two are both in Germany. Cardoen said he'll reconsider his position if the safety of the car improves.

NEW YORK (AP) -- Brilliance China Automotive Holdings Ltd., a Hong Kong-based automotive retailer, said Thursday it is removing its American Depositary Shares from listing on the New York Stock Exchange.

The company said the delisting stems from a decline in trading volume of its ADSs and increased costs related to complying with U.S. reporting and registration obligations.
Brilliance China said it notified the NYSE of its plans. After its ADSs are delisted it expects they will trade on over-the-counter markets.
Brilliance China said its ordinary shares will still be listed on the Stock Exchange of Hong Kong Ltd.'s main board. Questions or comments about this story should be directed to the Financial News desk of The Associated Press at 212-621-7190.
