We were hoping to see BYD Han in Europe and it is really coming.
BYD announced today that its new pure electric flagship model, the BYD Han, will be revealed in Europe, where the company is currently expanding (starting with the Tang model).

There is no timeframe yet (in China Han will be available from late June), but BYD has announced expected prices of the Han in Europe: from €45,000 to €55,000 ($49,000-$60,000).

"After thorough appraisal of the European markets, a projected MSRP for the Han EV is expected to be in the €45,000 to 55,000 range, placing it firmly in the premium-spec, executive car segment.

That's more than some hoped for, but it's targeted for the premium luxury saloon market and probably will be well equipped. Also, the range and acceleration numbers are great: 605 km (376 miles) NEDC and 0-100 km/h (62 mph) acceleration in just 3.9 seconds.

The BYD Han is the first model equipped with the all-new Blade Battery - lithium-iron-phosphate (LFP) cells in cell-to-pack (CTP) version, all-new DiPilot driving assistance system and silicon carbide power electronics.

There is no word about the plug-in hybrid version, so we guess that only all-electric BYD models will be introduced in Europe.

BYD Han (汉) BEV what to expect:

  • long range of some up to 605 km (376 miles) NEDC
  • Reportedly two battery options:
65 kWh battery for 506 km (314 miles) NEDC with FWD powertrain
77 kWh battery for 605 km (376 miles) NEDC with FWD powertrain and 550 km (342 miles miles) NEDC with AWD powertrain
  • Blade Battery - lithium-iron-phosphate (LFP) cells in cell-to-pack (CTP) version
  • 0-100 km/h (62 mph) in 3.9 seconds
  • two powertrain options for BEV:
    FWD (163 kW)
AWD (163 kW front + 200 kW rear)
  • highly efficient silicon carbide MOSFET power electronics (inverter)
  • DC fast charging from 30 to 80% in 25 minutes, 10 minutes of recharge for up to 135 km (84 miles) of range
  • drag coefficient of 0.233
  • Length 4,980 mm, Width 1,910 mm, Height 1,495 mm, Wheelbase 2,920 mm
BYD Han (汉) PHEV what to expect:

  • 2.0L gasoline engine (about 140 kW) and 180 kW electric motor
  • all-electric range of up to about 80 km (50 miles)

I welcome them. Chinese tech companies managed to take a piece of the pie from the established tech companies. Why not with the automotive sector?

Never imagine a door panel, mix between Audi and Mercedes, the latter's center console and Tesla dashboard, tell him that they forgot their personality.

Now, for the unfamiliar eye looks attractive, it is designed to delight, I reckon they attack the Hyundai / Kia domain

It also has Mustang vibes

Trivia: BYD is one of the worlds largest battery manufacturers and largest manufacturer of medical protective facemasks (they produce 50 milion masks per day).
They are experienced in electric mobility as they produced many electric buses and forklifts. Their other model Tang is coming soon to Norway according to their website.

I remember BYD having an small hatchback called the F0, which according to J.C, it was a coded message to Toyota if they ever decided to sue BYD for shamelessly copying the Aygo.

Not really tailored to European tastes so probably sales...

What do you mean by this, it's a well priced BEV sedan with an Audi RS red quilted interior at a sharp price. I can't think of any BEV sedans on sale in Europe, they are almost entirely SUV's or hatchbacks. This car has a niche, if they built a stationwagon they would have that market all to themselves as well.

That’s exactly the problem: it’s not a stationwagon or SUV. Sedan sales have slumped in Europe for decades already in favour of predominantly cross-overs and SUV’s. Only premium OEM’s still sell a decent amount of sedans. BEV sales are still highly dependent on government incentives.

I can think of a million reason not to want Chinese companies in the EU market.
The cheat, steal, rob and haven't done anything themselves.

Anyways, abysmal will be a good way to describe it's future EU sales.

Good for Europe, long as it doesn't make it to US and Cana...

LOL! Why don't you guys take it so we don't have to?

You can not imagine, if it happens like here, you will see shity cars even in the soup, they are in all the segments and in all the niches, they copy quickly, they react faster because nothing matters to them, there are no codes or respect, they beat you with lower prices, the CEO of Renault is very right to be concerned.

The most worrying of all is that there are exceptions that seem more serious are making good cars to look at and touch like this Haval that is very nice and with its own design, of course it does not avoid its origins with four exhaust tips for a 2.0, that exemplify what i say

Their copy and paste products will never be allowed on EU or U.S soil, so don't worry.

And that Haval (WTF is that brand even) has a copied Audi front, don't you see that? How can you possibly call that it's own design?

Their copy and paste products will never be allowed on EU or...
You are correct, that detail escaped me, but there is no denying that it is well presented (look at those wheels), and it has its attractiveness at half the price of a Tucson ....... in any case it is what I mean, it is not that they will see in the EU complete cars copied, but they will see the new trend, what you mention about Haval, parts of one and another brand mixed in a single vehicle, there are some here with the profile of the JEEP Suv, front of hyundai, rear of Audi, they are cars with so many personalities that it is impossible to know which is which.

With that strategy, they manage to sell to that client who does not know and only cares about the low price and likes the car for the items copied to others. You will be surprised at the quantities they will sell

Haval is a Great Walls brand. It was also called Hover, they sold their SUV in Italy (maybe still today).
Haval is sold in Australia and there are reviews on internet available, by Australian car magazines.

I can think of a million reason not to want Chinese companies...
Nah, we love you guys a lot so you can have them. Besides the Italians for some inexplicable reasons seems to be madly in love with the Chinese.

Model 3 price yet comes with less range.

Go back a few years and it'd be weird to imagine someone saying something like this about to similar cars. I wonder if anyone ever chose a 3 series or C Class over the other based on range.

What's the big deal?

Has a less shit interior, maybe?

In any case, I'd be amazed if this does well. Nothing to do with it being an EV, but I'm not sure what level of acceptance there is for Chinese cars at this price. Rightly or wrongly, there's still a stigma to overcome.

Clearly because there's petrol stations everywhere, and you have to use the Hubble space telescope to find an electric charging station in most parts of the world. So yeah every extra km counts for electric cars in the age we live in. It's more important than anything else, which makes things quite pathetic seen from this perspective..
