WOW
...720S IS A MONSTRE
I have a strong feeling the 720 will also embarrass the 488 Pista. Time will tell.
McLaren has Ferrari and the rest of the competiton in a tight choke-hold at the moment. I thought the GT2RS would shift the balance or power.
All this bright future is hypothetical, while the present is crushing. Lambo's platform is quite old, but I cant's see huge investments in a new one, regarding the VAG's Dieselgate. People at Ferrari are laying on their laurels and are a little too late in realizing what a big threat McL is to them. Porsche are handicapped by the restrictions of the 911 platform, so a big change should come in order to dethrone McL from its current dominating position.I think you all are underestimating McLaren's competition. Everything is awaiting replacement ir facelift. Aventador is 7 years old, Huracan is 4, F12/812SF platform been there for 6 years and 488 is 2 years, (unless it is still riding on the 458 platform, then it is ancient. ) How many models have McLaren gone through in that time? 3, with 12C, 650S and 720S. Each year better and faster than the last, just like phones. If Lamborghini and Ferrari had taken the same route I think they would be in the same place performance wise. Difference is they didn't, because they still somewhat care for their customers. Resale wise we have seen what happend to the latter 2 models of McLaren, they tanked price-wise despite being the fastest in their respective class. I'm actually glad they are now slowing down with pumping out new models.
Most of these high-performance cars from Lambo and Ferrari will be replaced by hybrids. And if the Hyper 3 are anything to go by they will be insane performance wise. Unless McLaren adopts hybrid setup for the LT version of 720S. Which I don't think they will since they are fed up with weight-saving.

Good point!
And yes, 488 is on the 458 platform wich is 8 years old.
Not really a fair assessment, Lamborghini and Ferrari have been around consumer cars for ages, McLaren have only just started up and the 12C and 650S were just them getting the formula right, but 3rd time's a charm. I don't think replacements will be so frequent anymore.I think you all are underestimating McLaren's competition. Everything is awaiting replacement ir facelift. I couldn't care any less about the performance of any McLaren not just the 720S. To me they look and feel soulless and ugly in 720S' case. I'd take the pista or performante over this anyday.
I liked the 720 to the point where I'm strongly considering one.
To me McLaren just can't touch Ferrari's levels of desirability, charisma and exoticism.
