When Germany sneezes, the European market catches a cold, and reversely when the German new car market is up 7% year-on-year to 270,249 registrations like it is the case in July, then all is good in this world. The year-to-date total now stands at 1,808,517 units, up 3% on 2013. The Top 8 most popular brands in the country return to exactly the same state as the year-to-date ranking, with Volkswagen leading the way by far (+10%) ahead of Mercedes (stable), Audi (+12%), BMW (+11%), Opel (+6%), Ford (+8%), Skoda (up an impressive 25%) and Renault (-7%). Seat shines at +12% in 9th position, as do Citroen (+25%), Volvo (+35), Porsche (+41%), Land Rover (+39%), Infiniti (+564%) and Maserati (+387%).

I wonder why sales of the Mercedes A-Class and C-Class are so low, considering the C-Class is brand new, are their problems with some of the Merc plants in Germany?

C-class production started in February and sales commenced in March, so naturally it has been impacted on by the model changeover.

MB also just can't build enough A's, CLA's and GLA's at the moment.
