Koenigsegg Ragnarok

Sources tell us that the Koenigsegg Ragnarok is the Agera successor.
After yesterday’s rumor mill about the Agera successor’s powertrain, we might just have got a confirmation on the car’s name. A reliable source close to Koenigsegg has informed us that the upcoming Agera successor is likely to be called the Ragnarok.

Apparently, Christian von Koenigsegg really liked last year’s Marvel movie. Jokes aside, Ragnarok is a major event in Norse mythology where the cosmos is destroyed along with the gods and goddesses. An appropriate name, we say for a car which would be capable of waking the dead with its twin-turbo V8 and shattering the tarmac with 1400 hp.

Koenigsegg’s current naming scheme for its models which involves names ending with ‘era’ started with the Agera (which means ‘to act’ in Swedish) and continued with the launch of the Regera (which means ‘to reign’ or ‘to rule’). We expected Koenigsegg to follow a similar philosophy while naming the Agera successor. However, as of now, we have learnt that this isn’t the case.

It is worth noting that even if Ragnarok is not the final name for the car, it must have been seriously considered by the company. The launch is not too far away though, as the public reveal is set for the 2019 Geneva Motor Show.

Rumor: Koenigsegg Agera Successor to get a 1440 HP Engine
The unveiling of the Koenigsegg Agera successor is still six months away and the rumor mill has already started to roll. The latest speculations come from the McLarenlife forum. A user Jonathan19 has spilled some juicy details about the upcoming hypercar. It is rumored that the Agera successor could have a 1440 hp engine with the red line set at 9000 rpm. If that isn’t extreme enough, it is also said that the car will weigh less than 1200 kg. To put that into perspective, the Agera RS has 1341 hp and it weighs 1395 kg. May we also remind you that the Agera RS is currently the world’s fastest production car.

Reports suggest that the Agera successor will have a “very Valkyrie AMR Pro-like front with a bit of Regera”. Removable roof top currently offered in both the Agera and the Regera will be retained on but it won’t be stowable as is on the current models. Some say that the Agera successor will have hybrid assistance but this information has already been falsified by Christian von Koenigsegg himself.

For its intended ‘race-like’ credentials, to be light-weight and to separate it from the Regera, the Agera successor won’t be a hybrid. Instead, it is likely to stick with the twin-turbo V8 engine. Earlier this year at the Geneva Motor Show, Christian said, “We are refining it, making it a little bit lighter, a little bit stronger… the thing with that engine is that there’s seemingly no end to what we can do with it. We polish it out, we open it up, and suddenly we have 20 or 30 more horsepower, and it’s even stronger and more reliable. It’s fascinating how capable the structure is.”

All these are just rumors and we will take this information with a grain of salt. Meanwhile, Koenigsegg has already conducted private previews and virtual reality tours of its hypercar.

The Tesla Roadster forced Koenigsegg to up its game

Though Christian got annoyed – at himself – for “needing a kick in the head to start thinking” about improving acceleration, the solution he found is just… wild. “We’re talking 0-250mph in 14 seconds, or something like this. It’s like, black marks all the way up to 250mph (400kmh).”

Yowser. But it points to Koenigsegg’s obsession with – as he says – “pushing the combustion engine into the wall to try to make it more power dense than an EV for as long as possible”. He’s all about the noise, and experience of internal combustion, and he’s only just getting started.

“What we see with our engines, we’ve noticed that we’re just scratching the surface of what we can achieve.

“Here’s an example: if we ignore fuel consumption for a moment… we have a fairly high compression ratio for our turbo V8 – 9.5 to 1 with 1.6 bar of boost. If we drop that to 8.8 to 1, we could boost to 2.2 bar, which is another 600bhp just like that, without putting more stress on your engine because your peak pressure doesn’t go up.

“And it would only consume about five per cent more fuel,” he adds.

The future is going to get mighty fast indeed.

Koenigsegg Agera successor to get 1,400bhp
Company boss Christian confirms the new hypercar will be ‘visceral’. And QUICK

Next year, you’ll see the successor to the Koenigsegg Agera. Specifically, you’ll see it at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show, and you will be in for something quite special.

Speaking at Monterey’s car week in California, Christian von Koenigsegg told TopGear.com that the successor to the current fastest car in the world will get 1,400bhp. Indeed, that’s just for the base level car. “There is potential to increase that, it’s very exciting,” he said.

He said that while the new car doesn’t have a single nut and bolt in common with the current one, it’s recognisable. “It will be like a triple-distilled version of the current Agera,” Koenigsegg said. So it’s slightly longer, more powerful, the pistons are a bit lighter, the connecting rods a tad more intricate… everything is incremental.

Indeed, it’ll also get more interior space thanks to that extra wheelbase and slightly higher roofline. Bigger wheels, too. And while we know it’ll be a turbo V8 with rear-wheel-steering, the transmission is a bit of a mystery.

Koenigsegg would only say this: “It’s wild. We jokingly say that all the gears we saved in the Regera [that car used a trick Direct Drive system] we put in the new one, so there are plenty of gears.” Intriguing.

The engine gets a few extra 100rpm at the top end, it’s a 180-degree crank, and is actively rubber mounted – just like the Regera – as opposed to being locked into the chassis. “What we learned from the Regera is that we can make a really stiff, nice, lightweight suspended engine solution with the new rear subframe,” he said. “And then you have a slightly more comfortable interior from a sound perspective.

“You hear the engine’s roar, but you don’t feel all the mechanics. It’s less industrial sounding,” he laughed.

But he did admit that many of his customers actually liked the feeling of ‘hearing every valve and injector’. “It’s not a beautiful sound, but it’s interesting. That disappears with the new car.”

However, he promised that it’ll remain ‘visceral’. He’s talking 1,000kg of downforce at 155mph.

Though you’ll see in 2019, it won’t be ready for another couple of years after that. Be warned…

Mr Khoshbin confirms the name Ragnarok.

He also says that the Ragnarok will be the most aerodynamic and most powerful Koenigsegg.

According to this article, The Ragnarok will have a different name when it goes into production in the next 2 years. Also it will have a nine speed transmission and they are only building 125 cars and 72 are already spoken for. The article is in swedish so you have use a translator to read it in english.

Are the rumors about bad driveability of koenigseegs real or fake? Every here and then you hear about or see pictures of crashed koenigseggs, when people try to drive them fast on tracks... and like you said: There are almost no tests from any serious magazins.
At least to me it feels like a fail to produce a really competitive sportscar (not just a dragster) ... but maybe I am doing koenigsegg wrong?

Real. Before when they let journalists test their cars several crashed (for example Sport Auto and Top Gear). And when they tried a Nurnburgring record attempt a couple a years ago even the Koenigsegg test driver crashed heavily and there was no time.....

Somehow I don't think it would be possible for a Hollywood Studio to trademark Norse Mythology.
Wanna bet?

Critics call Lion King trademark 'robbery'

Lion King: Petition calls on Disney to drop 'hakuna matata' trademark

"Hakuna matata" means "no problem" or "no worries" in the Swahili language, which is spoken across East Africa.

Disney first applied to trademark the catchphrase in 1994 - the same year it released The Lion King animation.

If Koenigsegg doesnt lie, he improved that monocoque during time. So not same one.
What happened to Regera, is it fake?
