Lamborghini Centenario LP770-4 will be the ultimate "definition of a hyper car"

The Geneva Motor Show is only a few weeks away so Lamborghini Research & Development Director Maurizio Reggiani has revealed some new details about the highly-anticipated Centenario LP770-4.

Designed to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Ferrucci Lamborghini's birth, the limited edition model will be based on the Aventador and feature unique styling as well as an assortment of lightweight components. Reggiani declined to elaborate but told Auto Motor und Sport "The Centenario is our definition of a hyper car."

As the name suggests, the Centenario LP770-4 will be powered by an upgraded version of the Aventador's 6.5-liter V12 engine. It will produce 759 horsepower and be connected to a seven-speed ISR transmission which is backed up by a standard all-wheel-drive system. This powertrain combination will reportedly enable the car to accelerate from 0-62 miles per hour in 2.7 seconds before hitting a top speed in excess of 217 mph.

Production will be limited to 40 units and half will be coupes while the other half will be convertibles. The Centenario LP770-4 is slated to cost €2.2 ($2.4) million but unfortunately all the cars have already been spoken for.

Love the Lambo, but

- The limited edition model will be based on the Aventador.
- Assortment of lightweight components (Probably something that would look like a bull in a ballerina costume - LP750-4 SV?)
- LP770-4 will be powered by an upgraded version of the Aventador's 6.5-liter V12 engine.
- Seven-speed ISR transmission.
- The Centenario LP770-4 is slated to cost €2.2 ($2.4) million.

The Reventon's successor......

Lamborghini Centenario LP 770-4 looks like it came from the future

French media has managed to acquire what appear to be official patent designs of the Lamborghini Centenario LP 770-4 due to show up in Geneva early next month.

It might not be as crazy as the Veneno, but Lamborghini’s ultra-exclusive model is still very much a sight to behold and it probably looks utterly impressive in the metal. The company from Sant’Agata Bolognese calls this its “definition of a hyper car” and from what we’re seeing so far it oozes performance. We do notice the very long front and rear overhangs and how the roofline is heavily sloped at the back which kind of reminds us of the Maserati MC12.

Based on the Aventador, the Centenario is Lamborghini’s way of celebrating 100 years since the birth of the company’s founder Ferruccio Elio Arturo Lamborghini. As the name of the car implies, it has 770 PS (759 horsepower) coming from the naturally-aspirated 6.5-liter V12 engine linked to an all-wheel drive system and a seven-speed ISR transmission.

In terms of performance, the Centenario LP 770-4 is expected to complete the 0-62 mph (0-100 kph) task in as little as 2.7 seconds and reach a maximum velocity of more than 217 mph (349 kph).

Lamborghini has plans to build 20 coupes and 20 roadsters that have already been sold at $2.38M a pop. We don’t know if this price refers to the coupe and/or the roadster. We’ll find out in a little over two weeks from now as the Centenario is set to be unveiled on March 1 in Geneva.

I know parallel projections can rob objects of realistic proportions... but damn, that looks horrendous. For me modern Lamborghini design really peaked with the Reventon.

The real thing won't look as bad as it does in these patent images, the over hangs won't be as long, and the lower part of the back won't be as bulky because most of the back is just for the diffuser channels. While it isn't as over styled as the Veneno, the car is still very much style over substance. Does it really need all these vents and channels to cool the V12?

I concur. The Asterion was a promising return to form of simplistic design and proportions, but it's been shelved in favor of the Urus.

It's rather amusing how Lamborghini is selling out these limited cars before the customers see it. The Veneno is downright ghastly in person; an exemplary exercise in design for design's sake. This looks like more of the same.

Lamborghini has foregone exclusivity of the LP V12 by producing upwards of 5k Aventadors already, so each year they release a V12 special edition..

Its certainly different and its got a really low front end and strange looking green house. I think it will look better in real life, once the proper concept debuts,

can't wait to see it at geneva IAA

as far as the images goes, someone on jalopnik pointed out that they were isometric and not perspective which means it looks a bit strange from some angles

Not a fan of the overstyled arches, te enormous slats by the door and all that...Then again, this is Lambo's new design language and this car is surely no exception...Granted, a car in this segment has to look very aggressive, but I think they've overdone it (my opinion, of course)...In the Aventador, despite the super aggressive looks, there was still this factor of elegance (even more so in the older models such as the Diablo and the Countach)...I'm afraid if I were to be on the market for an Italian exotic, I'd skip right past the Lambo and get myself a Ferrari instead

Dramatic shouldn't have to be hideous. This isn't a car worthy of Lamborghini's centennial celebrations - not from a styling perspective at least.

In the segment dominated by motor sport heavy weights like Ferrari, Porsche and Mclaren, Lamborghini is increasingly being seen as simply style over substance. They still produce stunning cars with advance technology, but it isn't pushing the boundaries like the others.

I honestly believe they lost the plot...I mean, they were always insane-looking, but substance was somehow also there with the Countach, the Diablo or the Murcielago

I kind of agree with you Martin.

What would have been cool is if they had invited Marcello Gandini to collaborate with the design team - afterall, his work at Lamborghini contributed greatly to the marque's iconic style.
