Lexus To Reveal A Mystery Concept At Tokyo, Could Preview The Next LS

Lexus wants to surprise us with the reveal of a new concept at the upcoming Tokyo Motor Show.
AutoNews talking about the possibility of a fuel cell powertrain hiding under its skin. Parent company Toyota is keen on pushing the fuel cell technology into mass production as it vividly demonstrated with the Mirai and the new LS sounds like a good opportunity for Lexus to do the same.

Toyota will also reveal a hydrogen fuelled concept at Tokyo Motor Show, the futuristic FCV Plus. Lexus haspromised a more emotional experience for the future LS with the company celebrating this year the 25th anniversary of its market debut in Europe.

The new Lexus LS is expected to come packed with the latest tech features and gadgets of the Japanese company, with hybrid and V8 versions included in its range. The fuel-cell version is reportedly expected to reach production in 2018 without anything being confirmed yet.

Of course Lexus has not shared yet any official information about the concept as they want to keep it a secret until the official reveal at Tokyo Motor Show towards the end of the month. The exhibition will also mark the Japanese debut of two models, the revamped GS and high-performance GS F, while the new RX crossover will make its first public appearance at the event.

Lexus to Reveal “Progressive Luxury” Concept Car at Tokyo Motor Show

Lexus will debut a new concept car at the Tokyo Motor Show on October 28th — here is the complete announcement taken from the press release:

Also making its world premiere is a new concept car which expresses Lexus’ future vision of progressive luxury. Complete details will be made available in a press release on October 28.

In a rare move, Lexus has not released any teaser imagery, and this means plenty of speculation without much in the way of real information.

The key word in the blurb is “luxury” — rumors earlier this year suggested the next-generation LS would debut in Tokyo, and there’s no better showcase to showcase the “future vision” of Lexus luxury.

What do you think? Will it be a concept version of the next LS or something completely different?

Lexus to Reveal “Progressive Luxury” Concept Car at Tokyo Motor Show

I really hope it's a concept version of the new LS, they are way overdue for a new one. Here's hoping it balances the line of being elegant yet daring and isn't garish.

They never need to step up their game, starting with this new LS. A friend of mine owns the new IS300h and I find it way worse option than any german alternative. The design, the interior, the engine, the refinement... I find it hard to justify buying this car instead of a 3er or a C-Class, to name a couple.

Let the (incessant) teasing begin...

Lexus Teases Its Mystery Concept Ahead Of Tokyo Debut

This is the first teaser photo of Lexus’ mysterious concept vehicle for the Tokyo Motor Show.
RC Coupe. Lexus remains quiet about the concept though and doesn’t offer any details except that the study is its vision of “progressive luxury”.

However, you may have a chance to learn more about the concept if you ask Lexus about it on its social media pages using the hashtag [HASHTAG]#LexusInTokyo[/HASHTAG]. The automaker says it may reply to your message with an image or a video of the study.

According to recent reports, the Lexus concept may have hydrogen fuel cell technology. We’ll learn more about that a week from now when the Tokyo Motor Show opens its gates for the press (October 29).

Everytime Lexus and Infiniti present one of their laboured, garish, over designed new cars, a horde of Japanese minimalist architects applaud their testicles with a couple bricks. How these companies fail so much designing a premium car, is beyond my rational thinking.

I remember an old Lexus release, it was something in the lines of "history is in the future" and I thougt, "well, yeah, that is what someone with no history would say."

Lexus here used to be compared to the likes of Alfa, Peugeot, Volvo and Volkswagen. Now it seems both Alfa and Volvo have moved along.

You mean the upper part or the one that is either a copy of the Nike logo or some brilliant marketing from Nike?

:D
I wasn't sure to call it the Nike lower light or Shark tooth light as now the shape looks actually more like a fishing hook than Nike logo hehehe:D:ROFLMAO:

The concept is fully unveiled, seems like the designers have tone down the crazy lines. I quite like the interior, it has its own distinctive minimalistic design, very creative use of material and detailing. It is luxurious without being overwhelming. I hope they will carry most of the design to production to give the LS a chance against the Germans.

Hmmmmm, if that is the next LS then Lexus is moving away from the S-Class, A8 and new 7-Series (emphasis on luxury) and they're going for the sportier side of the class, like the Panamera. This was rumored to be the case but I didn't believe it, but it appears to be true. Maybe they realize they can't out lux the S-Class (and now 7er) so they're changing directions? All speculation so far, but that is far more sporty than any LS has ever been, hell it looks sportier than the GS at least on the inside. Interesting. Can't wait to see the production LS now.

Very interesting design inside and out. The profile of the car looks quite sleek and at first I wasn't sure if I would like the front but the new grill (with 3D effect mesh) and lights certainly look distinctive and different to other cars in this class. The rear lights I don't like the starfish look, not good looking at all. The interior is nice, very different to other Lexus models and strikes a nice tone between high tech and luxury. Those wrap around bottom winged seats look comfortable. I like the type of wood been used as well. Certainly a much sportier design for an LS model than ever before.

I'm afraid this is a very conceptual car that embodies little of what the new LS will look like. The rearseats looks impressive though and are where Lexus can trump the Germans. In fact, the LS offered Maybach-esque rear hospitality back in 2008.

Yes in the flesh it is definitely striking if a bit too much over designed in some details. But if we bring it down to the realistic issues cars face before going into production. Some elements are entirely not feasible.
The production car will learn from this concept but the end result will be brought into reality in regards to avantgarde details.

like: the exterior, the interior, the fishook line turning into an intake

dislike: the rear lights look too much like the ones on a toyota FCV
