Lexus UX Concept 'leaked', could preview Audi Q2 rival

With just a few weeks left until the 2016 Paris Auto Show opens its gates, new vehicles are starting to reveal their shapes in official shots, and the Lexus UX Concept is now one of them.

Carrying an edgy exterior that brings it closer to its larger siblings, the NX and RX, the study uses cameras instead of conventional side mirrors and, judging by the handles joined at the B pillar, we might be looking at a pair of rear suicide doors.

The presence of two exhaust pipes, incorporated into the rear diffuser, suggests that an internal combustion engine will be responsible for setting it in motion, but AutoWeek states that the propulsion recipe could include a combo between gasoline and electricity, forming a hybridized powertrain.

Since Toyota already trademarked the UX200, UX250 and UX250h monikers with the European Union Intellectual Property Office this summer, chances are the automaker will put it into production as a rival for the Audi Q2. Whether it will share its underpinnings with the Toyota C-HR is unknown at the time, but we'll find out more at its debut in France.

I'm glad it was 'leaked' ahead of its debut to better prepare the human race.

That hideous thing is capable to scare the heck out of an innocent soul. Darn you, Lexus!

Lexus UX Concept interior revealed with holographic 3D experience
Lexus today released first images of its radical UX Concept's edgy interior.

Set for its world debut at the 2016 Paris Motor Show, the Lexus UX Concept will show off a futuristic interior that looks like something straight out of a science-fiction movie. Features like an innovative, 3D Human Machine Interface (HMI) will give drivers a completely “immersive” experience.

A facetted crystal structure replaces the typical touchscreen setup, and does away with any sort of buttons or dials. The holographic display combines analogue and digital information on the vehicle to display to the user - air conditioning, infotainment, music, etc. - that drivers can interact with at the touch of their fingertips.

The instrument cluster, on the other hand, Lexus has replaced with a transparent, floating globe that reads speed and miles per gallon, connecting the information to the driver digitally. The door mirrors are replaced with cameras that can be viewed from the central globe, while the switchgear, windows, and door locks forgo buttons in place of electrostatic technology.

The overall design continues the futuristic theme. Dramatic angles on the dash and steering wheel accent the fin motif on the A pillar. That design continues on the seats and dash, acting as a sound bar that comes built into the passenger side of the vehicle.

The idea for this concept was “to create a new genre of compact crossover,” said Stephan Rasmussen, designer at European Design Center. “A Vehicle that could create something unique from a customer’s point of view - an innovative, three-dimensional, fully immersive user experience.”

That “new genre” of crossover will make its debut at the Paris Motor Show on October 1st, 2016.

The latest Lexus (and also Toyota) designs just suffer from complete lack of timeless / aesthetic sustainability factor. They are just too contemporary & instant in their styling. I can't imagine driving such design in eg. 20 years. Yuck!

IMHO Lexus 7 Toyota designs are one of the worst design / styling languages in automotive industry at the moment (closely followed by Honda IMO). Not that design / styling has ever been Toyota's strength but current designs are on a verge of being offensive.

Usually such controversial & aesthetically challenging designs at least come with some philosophical background / foundation (read: PR BS) - so they can be digested easily. Not the such luck in Toyota / Lexus case, unfortunately.

Does Lexus' design team not consider the car's appearance, say, 20 years down the road?
These monsters won't age well, at all.
Earth will not exist 20 years down the road because this car isn't really a car, it is actually an alien invasion in disguise, once these cars are unleashed on the road, the human race will be over.

Dear Lexus,

Get your sh** together.

Sincerely,
One of the biggest Lexus apologists on GCF.

They released more pics of the interior and the front. I am not even going to bother to post them. The only thing I find even mildly redeeming are the headlights and the use of holograms as a UI, mostly because of sci-fi "cool" points. Everything else is batsh** crazy.

Great concept car. Very edgy. Forward-looking interior. Can't blame it for looking like anything other than a Lexus - whether you like it or not.

Dear mother of aliens!!! :wtf:

Another bukake-styled design by Toyota / Lexus. Their designers should be seriously advised to release their sexual tensions & frustrations elsewhere next time! Pouring-jizz-looking cars are just not a tasteful thing to look at, guys.
