M5 M5 By G-Power

The BMW M5 is a high-performance variant of the BMW 5 Series marketed under the BMW M sub-brand. It is considered an iconic vehicle in the sports saloon category. The first M5 model was hand-built beginning in late 1984 on the E28 535i chassis with a modified engine from the M1 that made it the fastest production saloon at the time. M5 models have been produced for every generation of the 5 Series since 1984, with occasional gaps in production (1995 to 1998, 2023 to 2024). Official website: BMW M

The same 4.4T V8 engine, the M5 refitted by G-power performance data reached 892 hp, 1050 Nm!

Intimidating specific output figures. But must they make it look like digested carrot cake ?

De-restricted, I wonder what these G-Power products would do. This tops at circa 217 mph restricted

A guesstimate based on some back of a fag packet maths suggests not much more... 224mph... maybe.

892hp at the crank, with 25% losses means 669hp left to push against the air, say 570hp is used to overcome this drag assuming the same CdA as the M5, and a bit more for rolling friction on asphalt - say 27hp at that speed... call it 600hp all up... doesn't leave many horses left, and you need a lot of them to go a little bit faster... say there's 70hp left, it might get to 225mph-ish

Agreed but it sounds about right. What is it they say...for every extra 1mph above 200ish, y...

It squares the square of the speed.. and it applies from 0 mph, an M5 would need 7hp to get from 200mph to 201mph, and an extra 70hp to get from 200mph to 210mph.

But putting values on it is tricky, air temperature and pressure play enough of a part at 200+ mph that it matters. To do 217mph in my local conditions (11°C/1015mb, an M5 will use ~574hp... in your stated location (21°C/1020mb), it'd only need ~557hp, right now.

The E60 with 800 ps tuning from G power was good for 350 kmh.

Okay, I've had a really long day, and I'm on the Brandy... so bare with me.

800PS is 789hp, and 350km/h is 217.5mph.

With the E60's more slippery size and shape, it only needed 525hp to overcome drag at 217mph... 44hp less than this G-Power M5 (assuming in both cases the CdA is the same as the M5's). There'd have been less drivetrain losses too in theory, since it was only RWD, so more of that 800PS figure is pushing against the wind.

Actually, if I remember correctly the Hurricane RR had closer to 850ps (more than advertised...
Yes, this was the data from G-power. AMuS makes each year a test in Nardo to verify the claims from some of the most prominent tuners and the G power E60 Hurricane managed to reach 350 kmh.

Wheel driven dyno tests....

"We've measured it, added on an arbitrary amount, and come up with a different figure! Their engine power must be over/under-rated!"

Whereas, it should be, "Their measured figure at the crank, versus ours at the wheel, indicates powertrain losses of..., provided we've allowed for atmospheric conditions!"

In any case, the E60 was probably losing less Hp to drivetrain losses, and was more slippery, therefore it can go faster with less quoted power... it simply wouldn't be right to assume a car with more aero drag and mechanical losses would be faster, even if it did have more Hp.

BMW M

BMW M GmbH, formerly known as BMW Motorsport GmbH, is a subsidiary of BMW AG that manufactures high-performance luxury cars. BMW M ("M" for "motorsport") was initially created to facilitate BMW's racing program, which was very successful in the 1960s and 1970s. As time passed, BMW M began to supplement BMW's vehicle portfolio with specially modified higher trim models, for which they are now most known by the general public. These M-badged cars traditionally include modified engines, transmissions, suspensions, interior trims, aerodynamics, and exterior modifications to set them apart from their counterparts. All M models are tested and tuned at BMW's private facility at the Nürburgring racing circuit in Germany.
