M6 M6 in 24hrs of Daytona

The BMW M6 is a high-performance version of the 6 Series marketed under the BMW M sub-brand from 1983 to 2019 (with a hiatus from 1990 to 2004). Introduced in the coupe body style, the M6 was also built in convertible and fastback sedan ('Gran Coupe') body styles for later generations. An M6 model was built for each of the first three generations of the 6 Series. Production of the M6 ended in 2019 and it was replaced by the BMW M8 (F91/F92/F93) in 2019. Official website: BMW M

Hey, I'm watching the 24 hours of Daytona right now, and I thought I saw an 6er. So I waited around until it listed engine and chassis, and sure enough, there's an M6 in the race. Does anybody have any info on this car?

Yep!! You're right! Just checked the homepage!!

Yeah, there are a few odd cars in there. Couple Mustangs (one a Cobra R) and stuff like that. I hope they show the M6. I keep thinking I see it when the DPs pass it, but I'm not sure. But score one for knowing my taillights, haha.

Yea the team is called "Automatic Racing". They normally race M3's in other cometitions. This chassis is made by Riley I believe, which are the same manufacturers as the RX8's and DP's. The engine is the E39 M5's V8... tuned obviously.

I'm going to go to VIR in late April to watch the Rolex Series. Last time, they let me sit in the only M3 (although it did horribly since it was so old by then), so hopefully I'll get to do the same with the M6.

How is the car doing?

Currently, the number 90 is running 4th from the bottom in GT, but it's still running, which says something in this race where a lot of people have been knocked out.

Just wanted to ask, why it is still running - 24 hours... :D:D ...right! :eusa_doh:

There is a Riley GT 6 series made for the GT class. Dinan has one for sale now in Autoweek for $300,000.

BMW M

BMW M GmbH, formerly known as BMW Motorsport GmbH, is a subsidiary of BMW AG that manufactures high-performance luxury cars. BMW M ("M" for "motorsport") was initially created to facilitate BMW's racing program, which was very successful in the 1960s and 1970s. As time passed, BMW M began to supplement BMW's vehicle portfolio with specially modified higher trim models, for which they are now most known by the general public. These M-badged cars traditionally include modified engines, transmissions, suspensions, interior trims, aerodynamics, and exterior modifications to set them apart from their counterparts. All M models are tested and tuned at BMW's private facility at the Nürburgring racing circuit in Germany.
