Maybach 62/62S Maybach 62 S Landaulet Concept

The Maybach 57 (chassis code W240) and 62 (chassis code V240) were the first automobile models of the Maybach brand since its revival by DaimlerChrysler AG (now Mercedes-Benz Group AG). They are derived from the Mercedes-Benz Maybach concept car presented at the 1997 Tokyo Motor Show. The concept car was based on the Mercedes-Benz W140 S-Class sedan platform, as were the production models. The models ceased production in February 2013 due to continued financial losses for the brand, with sales at one-fifth the level of the profitable Rolls-Royce models.

Maybach’s newest model has been revealed ahead of its world debut at the upcoming Dubai Motor Show in a couple of week’s time. The car is a new semi-convertible version of the 62 saloon that officials will be calling a concept, but a limited production run of just 20 examples is all but confirmed for early next year.

The new model is based on the current Maybach 62 but adopts a sliding roof over the rear compartment. The Landaulet design was made popular in the early part of the century and is basically a regular sedan with a fabric roof-center that can be folded away. The car also gets a revised interior with a removable glass panel dividing the front and rear quarters. Power will come from the same 612hp V12 engine shared by the regular saloon.
A certain unscrupulous UK publisher has taken it upon itself to again leak photos ahead of their release date and since we don’t agree with their behavior we won’t mention them by name, however it won’t be long until official pictures are out so stay tuned for full high-res shots.

Re: Revealed: Maybach 62 Landaulet

It looks seriously very very ugly. Imagine looking at it from the side profile the roof cover will look so out of place. This is what you end up with when you try to modify the existing design of car that is not intended to be designed like that.

The Maybach 62 Landaulet looks like this

And the real deal looks like this

Re: Revealed: Maybach 62 Landaulet

I disagree, how can you say it looks bad without any good pic?
From the pic we see here it looks really wonderful, it exsudes class and luxury.

I am sorry, but this Maybach Landaulet is a brilliant idea, it gives Maybach an enormous exclusiveness, and from the pic here it is very very impressive.

Re: Revealed: Maybach 62 Landaulet

I think it can help a lot.

What scares me is the rumours of a Maybach GL: that would be the end for Maybach... Imagine a Rolls-Royce version of the X5, or a Bentley Q7...

But this Landaulet is brilliant, and it looks brilliant in this pic. It will boost Maybach's image a lot, more trendy, and a lot of (very rich) people will want one.

Re: Revealed: Maybach 62 Landaulet

The Exelero was unique and never sold, but did a lot for Maybach.
Same goes for the Landaulet.

These models help Maybach to build its image, and then Maybach will sell more thanks to its better image. Not in the very short term of course...

Let's see what Mercedes does with Maybach, a new model with better design would be good.

The Landaulet is, I repeat, brilliant for me.

Could you show me some proof that Exelero actually affected the sales? :t-hands:

This Landaulet is just like a "targa" version of 62, not much of a difference to the other production models except the roof. That's why I think it won't do much for Maybach image-wise...

Re: Revealed: Maybach 62 Landaulet

True and Exelero was just a show-off car specially made for Fulda and their tires, not for Maybach brand. And no intention to boost Maybach sales or to help image problems.

It definitely didn't help Maybach in any way.

:t-cheers:

Re: Revealed: Maybach 62 Landaulet

It helped Maybach a lot, imagewise.
Of course, like I said, it is not short-term...

Concerning the Landaulet, it is not a convertible Maybach.

It is the only landaulet actually available on the market from what I know. Landaulet was very appreciated by richs and kings, it has an aura of power, of 30's way of lifge, of class and elegance that is unmatched by any other type of car.

It is spectacular, and exclusive. Therefore it will enhance Maybach's image alot.

Rolls-Royce did not became Rolls in one day, you need time to build an image like that. And you need to offer something better than the others (what the Maybach not really is, because of its look) or something unique and exclusive that others don't offer (what the Landaulet is).

A Landaulet is not a convertible.
It is the car of kings or popes.

The Exelero had also a strong resonnance in the world of the exclusive cars, and thus gave Maybach an image-boost. You don't have many carmakers that build unique cars for a client. It is also very 30's...

So Maybach wants to become as exclusive as Rolls, or even more.

Such ultra limited-edition or unique cars, that offer something unique and very desirable, are a perfect way to achieve that imo. It make people talk from Maybach, and it makes them want this model....

But they can't have it because only one, or 20, were built, so it creates a Maybach-desire. You can see it, but can't touch it, it is too rare..

No direct effect on short term, but building an aura of ecxlusiveness, of unaffordableness, of uniqueness, of rarity, that creates the myth of brands like Rolls.

See this Maybach? You will never have one, even with all the money... See that Rolls? Can have it, all your friends have one BTW...

In which way? Helped in sales? For sure not! And this car is about making money of it and i'm sure you know they are not making money of it, they're not selling as they planned, so what image boost you're talking about? After Exelero, Maybach didn't become nothing more desirable.

See this Maybach? You will never have one, even with all the money... See that Rolls? Can have it, all your friends have one BTW...

Yeah, sure... :eusa_clap

Re: Revealed: Maybach 62 Landaulet

The biggest problem with the current Maybach is the S-class. The Maybach looks like the W220, and it is not as technically advanced as the W221. So those wealthy potential Maybach customers who probably has an S-class already, do not think the cost of purchasing a Maybach is justified, however the RR Phantom is unique, so that is why the RR is outselling the Maybach.

This Landaulet version is unique, but not unique enough, so MB created it as a limited model to increase its appeal. I still think it is a half arsed, rushed job. Mercedes can do better, put the Ocean Drive into production and things will then start to change.

Re: Revealed: Maybach 62 Landaulet

That car is gonna look magnificent rolling down Monaco's streets with the top down.

Re: Revealed: Maybach 62 Landaulet

Well for me it is unique enough! Imagine the feeling in that car, must be incredible.

I love it. Absolutely fabulous. Back to the 30's... This is pure luxury.

Re: Revealed: Maybach 62 Landaulet

BTW, Monster, for me the one and only problem with Maybach is that it does not look exclusive enough. The Rolls is much moire (too much?) impressive, the Maybach not enough from the outside.

This is a fabulous way to increase Maybach's sex-appeal!

My God!

Mercedes-Maybach

In November 2014, Daimler announced the revival of the Maybach name as a sub-brand of the Mercedes-Benz S-Class (W222), positioned as an upscale version akin to the more sporty Mercedes-AMG sub-brand.
