E-Class Mercedes-Benz E-Class All Terrain (X 213)

The Mercedes-Benz E-Class is a range of executive cars manufactured by Mercedes-Benz in various engine and body configurations. Produced since September 1953, the E-Class falls as a midrange in the Mercedes line-up, and has been marketed worldwide across five generations.
A6 Avant 2.0 TDI: £35,000
A6 Allroad 3.0 TDI: £46,000

And the cheapest A6 Avant 3.0 TDI (quattro) is £43,000. So really, the difference is quite marginal.

The only difference is the A6 Avant starting with a 4 pot, and the Q7 with a V6. There's the price difference. But a model with the same engine costs roughly equal.

True, but 2.0L diesel engines are a very common customer choice nowadays, so the 3.0L Allroad is a big financial stretch if you don't want all that extra power.

Mercedes are going to beat Audi at their own game with the more economical E220d 4Matic All Terrain which will be closer in price to an entry level A6 Avant, 5-Series Touring or E-Class Estate.

I wouldn't be surprised if Audi added a 2.0TDI choice for the 2018 model year.

It looks to be valuable and delicate to be even considered using in the same way as a Volvo V90 Cross Country might be used.
Its the automotive equivalent of Ralph Lauren or Versace outdoor wear against the more rugged North Face and Jack Wolfskin orientation of the Volvo. Which is why it will be seen "mounted" on pavements across the globe without a splash of mud.

Its weird how cars like the Audi allroad and now this are marketed as new models.

These manufactures should just sell these as a type of line, like the G line for Mercedes or the Q line for Audi, hey maybe even the X line for BMW.

Its not a new car whatsoever, just plastic arches and suspension boost.

With A6 Allroad, V90 CrossCountry and now E-class All Terrain all being available I think it's time BMW finally comes up with proper 5er xTouring. It's an interesting niche, and BMW are missing quite an opportunity here IMHO.

We have been there about four times. What with the E34,E39,E46 and E61. The customers were not really interested
E34 actually led to the eventual development of the X5 project. But most customers go for the SAV or the xDrive instead.
It would be Interesting to see if attitudes have changed? But a 5er Touring in xDrive is more than capable despite its anonymous persona.

A 3 series touring X line would look fabulous!

What about the C class all terrain? Where's that?

Are there photos or videos of the car driving on some actual rough terrain, so far the roughest terrain I saw can't even be compared to my backyard.

Meanwhile on some 'real' tough terrain somewhere in England :D

Pains me to say, but as handsome as this is....the Volvo looks better. That said, the Mercedes will offer more than an over-stressed 4-cylinder as it's motivation.

M

Even though they offer it you know most of them will also be sold with over stressed 4 cylinder engines.

Very nice but the one thing that bothers me about the styling is that silver plastic trim air intake at the bottom of the front bumper, it just doesn't look integrated and just an add on to the bumper. The Volvo does look sleeker.

The A6 allroad still looks better than both.

Depends on the market. If it comes to the U.S. it will be a 6-cylinder. Doesn't matter either way, the point is that they offer more than a 4-cylinder.

So I am the only one who wouldn't have a second thought and take the E All Terrain?

The whole segment is silly, but I might as well take the best one if I had to choose. And from Volvo, I only like the new XC90. The rest is nice, but nice for a Volvo. Which doesn't mean much to me personally.

5er Touring with xDrive is enough right? This all terrain stuff is marketing at it's best. If you'd want to go 'all terrain', there's a slew of X models. And an X model is hardly all terrain either. If you want to go all terrain you need a Nissan, Toyota, Land Rover or Mercedes.

You live in the Netherlands far away from anything remotely like a hill or rough terrain, or snow, the added ground clearance is good to have.

The good parking spaces at my local ski field would rip the underside out of a 5er touring with xDrive, a jacked up estate like the Outback, Allroad and V70 XC has enough ground clearance to get you there, otherwise like me you have to park much further away from the lift.

Which brand will be the first to offer off-road coupes/saloons?

As ridiculous as it sounds, I can imagine a future niche - the same way off-road convertibles are beginning like the evoque

I'm pretty sure I read recently that the E300 is the biggest selling E in the US, so why wouldnt this also come as a 4?

Except the Evoque was far from being the first, Nissan had a go, so did Suzuki.
