SLR Mercedes-Benz Recalling 3 MY 2007 SLR McLaren vehicles

The Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren (C199 / R199 / Z199) is a grand tourer jointly developed by Mercedes-Benz and McLaren Automotive and sold from 2003 to 2010. When the car was developed, Mercedes-Benz owned 40 percent of the McLaren Group and the car was produced in conjunction between the two companies. The "SLR" name is an abbreviation for "Sport Leicht Rennsport" (Sport Light Racing), and was a homage to the Mercedes-Benz 300 SLR which served as the car's inspiration. The car was offered in coupé, roadster and speedster bodystyles, with the latter being a limited edition model.

We couldn’t resist not posting this recall: Mercedes-Benz USA is recalling 3 -yes, that’s three-, MY 2007 SLR McLaren vehicles due to a faulty windscreen installation. According to Merc, either the primer or activator was missing at the time of installation. The recall (of all three cars…) is expected to begin this month (January) with dealers removing the windshields, cleaning and reinstalling them correctly with primer and activator. Now, what are the chances that one of the three owners could be reading this post?

Every car has these things regardless of cost. I'm surprised they'd even issue a recall. Just do it by letter (silently) like all the other high-end brands do.

Let's not forget that these cars are assembled by hand. And like every one of us, humans can make mistakes.

Not to jump into defense or anything but it's often better to recall than keeping it quiet. It's concerns a potential danger towards owners of the SLRs and it is a responsible act to recall these cars even if it's only 3.

To some people's mind it will slightly damage the brand image but it's human life we are talking about. In my opinion, it's just rational and moral decision, it's a good thing they value life above image/pride. For that matter this should go for any brand no matter the price.

I guess Mercedes McLaren exactly know which 3 particular SLR's are having problems with the windscreen and thus know who the 3 owners are. Most likely they will contact the dealer who sold the car or/and contact the owner directly.

The number of recalls on the SLR is very high. Most recalls are for only 3,5,10 vehicles.
The SLR techs say SLRs don't break, the recalls fix it before it has a chance to.
