These will look as close to the ICE equivalent as the new GLC EV looks to the current ICE GLC. A different-looking nose on account of the EV-specific retro front, but otherwise identical. We knew this from the beginning when Mercedes halted the EQ-specific design debacle and decided to merge the designs. While the ICE and EV models will have different internals, the shell will be identical.

Strong showing by the new CLA. And my perceptions regarding the A6 etron seem accurate. I'm seeing more and more of these around. And that surprises me, actually. ix1's are of course very common in my neck of the woods.

Some news on the withdrawal of all 4-cylinder AMG cars. YAY this is fantastic news!!

Mercedes-AMG 4-cylinder engines are too loud for EU standard

Mercedes-AMG withdraws numerous 4-cylinder engines from the range
From 01.07.2026, the exterior noise regulation Phase 3 UN-R51.03 will come into force in the EU.
While Mercedes-AMG complies with the new noise standard with the R6 and V8 engines or adapts it to this standard, this is apparently no longer worthwhile for the 4-cylinder engines.
The following models will therefore be discontinued in 2026:

ModelEnd of production
GLA 35 AMG 4matic3rd week February 2026
GLC 43 AMG 4matic3rd week February 2026
GLC 43 AMG 4matic Coupé3rd week February 2026
GLC 63 S E Performance AMG 4matic+3rd week May 2026
GLC 63 S E Performance AMG 4matic+ Coupé3rd week May 2026
C 43 AMG 4matic3rdweek February 2026
C 43 AMG 4matic Estate3rd week February 2026
C 63 S E Performance AMG 4matic+3rd week May 2026
C 63 S E Performance AMG 4matic+ Estate3rd week May 2026

The successor to the GLA 35 AMG 4matic will probably come in mid-2027. The GLA 45 S EQ 4matic+ will deliver over 544 hp and drive purely electrically. The GLA mild-hybrid versions will no longer get an AMG version.

However, it is interesting to note that the GLA 45 S AMG 4matic+ (H247), unlike the GLA 35 AMG 4matic, may continue to be produced.

In the C-Class (43 and 63, both with the M139 4-cylinder), the two 4-cylinder AMG models will be replaced by an M256M R6 petrol engine with the facelift in autumn 2026. It will then be called the C 53 AMG 4matic. Thus, there is no really long gap here either.

In the GLC, the GLC EQ will receive an AMG version. It is to receive almost 1,000 hp. The X254 series will receive a facelift in 2027. It is not yet clear which new AMG engine will replace the two 4-cylinders (43 and 63).

Its amazing watching the EU kill it’s industry from within
To be honest, this just reads like Mercedes applying a bit of corporate spin to the lack of demand for their 4 cylinder AMG engine, and binning it off. If they're replacing them with an inline 6, its not exactly anything to do with the motor being too noisy. Just that Mercedes doesn't want to spend the money to make it compliant.

Not like a farty turbo 4 cylinder sounds particularly good anyway.
