Is it too early to ask for a Christmas present?
The 935 has been known as a formidable piece of Porsche motorsport history since 1976 when its first model was introduced. It’s a racing version of the 911 Turbo that’s prepared for the FIA Group 5 rules. Since 1984, this car has won over 150 worldwide, which includes 20 class wins. That number alone makes this Porsche a force to be reckoned with.

DP Motorsport aims to relive that legacy with the Porsche 935 DPIII. The aftermarket company, with its founder Ekkehard and son Patrick Zimmerman, has cemented its name in transforming “Porsche models into dream cars,” and its latest product is the best testament to that.
For the uninitiated, though, the base vehicle for the 935 DPIII project is a 1992 Porsche 965 Turbo with a 3.3-liter engine. DP Motorsport is known to do this conversion since the ‘80s, and they’ve been successful in doing so and competing in German motorsport scene.

Such history in German motorsport is the inspiration in the 935 DPIII project. The polar liver shade with stripes is exactly the same, as well as the body kits which are made from high-grade fiberglass with diverse carbon fiber reinforcements. A newly-manufactured stainless steel exhaust system is the cherry on top of the cake.

The engine gets dialed up, too, which now can produce 450 metric horses. It’s also fitted with adjustable sports suspensions by H&R, a uniball strut bearing, and an adjustable strut brace. Wheels have also been reconfigured, with 9x18 inches in 245/40-18 on the front axle and 12.5x18 inches with 335/30-18 at the rear.

Of course, the interior isn’t left out as DP Motorsport dressed the cabin in fine leather in black and gray. The steering wheel is sports type, as well as the presence of club sport roll-over bars because they are humans, not savages. The seats are lollipop type, which also comes in black and gray.

Modified Porsche 935 Is The Ultimate Track Toy

Das Heinie: Porsche 935 Revs Our Heart With Retro Cues, 700 HP
This thing looks ready to race.

At the Rennsport Reunion, Porsche pulled the sheet off a modern classic: the 935. If that name sounds familiar, that’s because it once adorned the backside of a successful Porsche racer dubbed "Moby Dick." This new model pays homage to the long-tailed legend from the late '70s with a curvaceous rear all its own, and celebrates Porsche’s 70th anniversary at the same time.

Underneath the dramatic steel and carbon fiber bodywork is a 911 GT2 RS. The added lightness keeps the curb weight at a featherlight 3,042 pounds (1,379 kilograms), and a handful of tasteful retro cues have been applied throughout. The red dish wheels are especially sexy, and the 911 RSR-derived side mirrors and 908-inspired exhaust tips are subtle nods to past legends. Even the cabin gets a throwback look; a laminated wood shifter from the 911 GT3 R carry over here.
Of course, Porsche didn’t keep things completely stock under the hood; the 935 sports a twin-turbocharged 3.8-liter flat-six producing 700 horsepower (521 kilowatts). All that power comes paired to a seven-speed PDK gearbox (sorry, manual purists), with electronic upgrades like stability control, a data logger, and even air conditioning.

You might have already guessed it, but the 935 won’t be street legal. Porsche says it’s intended for track junkies only. It only comes with one seat standard (but a second seat can be added as an option), and just 77 examples will be offered worldwide. Porsche hasn’t divulged details on U.S. pricing, but buyers in Europe can snag this rare Porsche for €700,000 (approx. $814,000).
"This spectacular car is a birthday present from Porsche Motorsport to fans all over the world," says Dr Frank-Steffen Walliser, Vice President Motorsport and GT Cars. "Because the car isn’t homologated, engineers and designers didn’t have to follow the usual rules and thus had freedom in the development."

A touch more power than the GT2RS? Nice.

Singer watch out. It appear like are getting serious about restomod. Can't wait to see what other limited edition models they'll make.

The rear of the 935 reminds me of the AMG One.

Well technically this isn't a "restomod" [restored & modified] car. It's more like a "Special Operations" project more akin to MSO or Ferrari's custom program. All the same it would appear too that Porsche sees a market in restoring old 911s a la Singer.

It won't, but at least we can dream a bit.
Late last month, Porsche took us by surprise by unveiling the stunning Porsche 935 limited to just 77 examples for the whole world. At €700,000 (approximately $814,000 at the current exchange rates) a pop in Europe, it’s not what you would call an affordable supercar, but who cares when it’s so amazing.
Given its track-only nature, it’s safe to assume no further modifications will be released in the future. That’s sad, but designer Jan Peisert is here to help with a virtual Targa makeover. It will definitely remain just a drawing, but let’s dream about a modern-day, open-top Moby Dick at least for a couple of minutes.
Turning the 935 into a proper road-legal convertible may seem like an easy task when you are a Photoshop guru, but the reality is different. Peisert removes the roof of the vehicle and replaces the A and B pillars with components from a 911 Targa. Then, he tweaks some of the aerodynamic details and removes the decals to give the vehicle a more production-ready design. Thankfully, the massive fixed rear spoiler, one of our favorite details about the 935, remains untouched.
Based on the 911 GT2 RS, the 935 features carbon fiber bodywork, which helps reduce the total weight to just 3,042 pounds (1,379 kilograms). The overall design is not just a modern remake of the classic Moby Dick, but also pays tribute to legendary road and race models from Porsche’s past, including the 911 RSR, 908, and 911 GT3 R.
The retro looks are combined with a 3.8-liter flat-six engine, generating 700 horsepower (521 kilowatts) channeled to the rear wheels through a seven-speed PDK gearbox. Onboard you will find electronic upgrades like stability control, a data logger, and even air conditioning. What better way to celebrate the brand's 70th anniversary?

How about a revival of the "Werks-Flachbau" option based on the 992 ?

Wow what a treat. We have a revival of this stunning 935 and De Tomaso all in the same week. Motoring is still very exciting.
