My mom's new 335i.

Ok. So for Christmas my dad brought home a 335i on a lease for my mom. Its the sedan version yet all the same a very cool car. I know its been a while since christmas but i wasnt going to give a review until I really got to ring it out and feel the car. After driving it for a good while, I have to say it is absolutely all that it is hyped up to be. I am incapable of finding anything wrong with this car. Here are some pictures:

Sorry the pictures are somewhat lousy....

The car is truly a sleeper. Appearing as a normal 3 series yet capable of blowing the doors off anything this side of an RS4. Unfortunately a stick was hard to come by so my mom had to settle for an automatic with flappy paddles. Its complete with easy access, premium package and sport package. However active steering was left out. I had to give my mom a few days before i finally posed the question as to whether I could drive it.. Once I had my chance i really rung it out. I got to drive it to my school, leaving home after christmas break. Your probably thinking, wow, He really knows the car after an hour drive... yea right.

Fortunately the drive involved one of the oldest freeways in California, the 110 freeway from Pasadena. This old freeway allows for high speed cornering and plenty of full throttle lane changes. Unfortunately my parents accompanied me in the drive so i had to keep the family filter on. :D Nevertheless it was some of the most fun i have ever had in a car.

The steering is unbelievably communicative. It tells you exactly what the chassis' limit is in addition to the texture of the road. It instills confidence like no other car i have ever driven has (bar the M5). Through the long sweeping turns i really felt the capability of the chassis. I wish i was able to fully push the car just to get a sence of where the limits are but unfortunately i had to be sensitive to the owners. The car turns from one corner to another solidly and fluidly reacting to ever driver imput telapathicly (for lack of a better term) I detected absolutely no roll in the body nor any drama, yet thats true for every BMW i have driven at those speeds.

The engine is a dream. It feels like a really powerful v8 yet the sound of a straight six bellows from the exhaust. I have driven the 330i with the N52 magnesium engine which a beautiful set up but just cant match this in any respect. There is so much available torque at any RPM it makes passing cars on the free way quite a pleasure. The N52 required some reving to get the speed up while this is happy with a light touch of the throttle. Its easy to drive slow but you can tell the car almost craves to be pushed. ITs an amazing engine.

I have driven lots of BMWs over the past two years since ive had my license. I have driven an e90 330, the e60 M5 and 550i, along with a 645i and a 750i none of which match this car in terms of pleasure. Yes, not even the M5. THe M5 was a blast to drive, dont get me wrong, but i cant justify the amount that car drinks to have an equal amount of fun to the 29mpg 335. In addition the 3 really embraces BMW's ideal of a wolf in sheep's clothing. Its not racy at all but it could take on an STI, S4, and C55. Its my new favorite car.

It delivers all that along with 29 mpg, a great sound system, blue tooth, nav and a luxurious interior. It is the ultimate package. There is nothing I have driven that creates that kind of relationship between car and driver. Its remarkable and i'd recommend it to anyone.

Thanks for reading.

*I'm going to be much less frequent on here for the next few months. I have to focus on school this semester. :t-cheers:

Congrats, Matt!

Although i'm not a fan of ext colour and interior combo it's still a great car, man... But that's only my personal taste and design is not so important by this car as other things...;)

Awesome review matt and congrats to your mom!!!! Thats a nice looking car there. You are so lucky to have the chance to be driving these cars not to mention owning them.

ps. Nice turbo in the background!! My uncle has one but he won't let me touch it.

Dominix: Yea i have driven the turbo. That car is seriously fast, but i actually enjoyed driving the 3 series more.

Wimmer: As far as I am aware the 335d wont be coming to the states any time soon and it especially won't be sold in california due to the high sulfur in our diesel fuel. Id rather have the petrol version anyway!

BMW dude: haha, thats what im thinking. Of course when i do that i usually go a little nuts if you've read my 550i and M5 reviews.... But thats because i love driving.

Thanks for the nice words guys.

Congrats on your mums new bimmer Matt. Enjoy it as much as you can before the lease ends :D

All i can say is that your family has the best sellection of cars. A 993Turbo, a M5 and now this 335i. It's just great!

BTW, nice to see that you will be more active the next months!
