Ok so you made an interduction thread, where you said hello and what not, what now?

I have noticed that on this site that we have many members who have joined anywhere from a year ago to a day ago, yet many of you have still not posted or posted often. So I have some tips because I too was very timid with the whole forum thing when I first joined and it took me a better half of a year to start actively participating, which is a real shame because this is a great place with lots of great people.

- A great place to start posting, participating, and to just ease in is the Off-Topic forum. We have lots of things to talk about in there, everything from photography to games so, if you feel like you dont have a lot of input on car stuff just come play in the OT zone thats where the fun is. This is where I broke out and how I became a moderator, and because of this I have became a much more active participator on the site. Also we now have a whole new off topic sit called TheByte.com which is a great place to warm up.

- Opinions and input are always welcome. As long as you are friendly and non-offensive, peolpe want to hear what you have to say, no matter if you have 2 posts or 2,000 posts.

- Don't get discouraged, I remember when I was new and mosts posts I made went largley ignored, It's not that we don't hear you, there is just so much going on here that we dont always see every single post. But this has improved greatly, almost everything posted will get a response, so if you have a question or some info don't be shy.

- It is alright to be biased, pretty much everybody here is biased toward one brand or car, but dont attack, and insult others who have different opinions than you. Be smart and respectful in your posts and you'll make it far, here.

-If you have good info, sources and like to share, post away, we are a very welcoming place, just ask a certain member on our site who rose to the top in a few months to become one of the top posters, a super mod, and the karma leader.

-Just relax and have fun! This is THE best forum on the net, where else do you get loads of info on all major German car manufacturers as well lots of other car companies, great people, and are able to have fun at the same time?

If you need anything you are always welcome to PM a mod(a blue name) or any member really.

Existing members please feel free to add anything to the list that could help out.

Hey Jeff, I'm surprised you took so long to say something because you seem like a pretty confident guy.

I was a "lurker" too, for about a year, before I finally posted anything on the old GermanCarFans forum.

...and welcome to mkreed945.

Heh, yeah I dunno, I am the type of guy who likes to hang out with people I know well and not a bunch of people I don't know. So once I felt comfortable around you guys here on the forum, I was good to go.

And welcome mkreed, I am glad you read this thread, at least I know someone is reading it, hope to see you posting a bit more now :t-cheers:

Welcome mkreed945, enjoy your stay!

I took a while to post on the old GCF forums, and it took a while before I became a regular poster!

I still remember my first post, that was a while after reading and lurking. Once i figured out how cool everyone was here i started posting alot more.
To any new comers reading this thread WElCOME:D :usa7uh:

I began detailing Mercedes-Benz / BMW helping out at my Father’s dealership as well as his Jag collection back in the late 50's, he enters them into Concours d’éléganceevents (detailing to another level) and as such I’m used to a large number of high-end new and used cars. The one thing I learned (and still have that last 98% to learn, mind you) way back then still holds true today “ It’s the surface preparation that makes the difference, not the product”.

I detailed my first car when I was fourteen (a mere five decades ago) it was a 1929 Bentley that belong to my Fathers friend Brigadier John Dix of Kensington, London. If, as they say, "God is in the details," then a 1929 Bentley is truly a religious experience. I knew then that detailing would become a passion and my méetier.
It has always been a relaxing past time for me and while at college I had a part-time business detailing classic vintage cars. From there to Concours d’éléganceentrant then judge, and then on to writing car care articles and How-to: instructions, then writing a series of books on my favourite subject.

It is my intent to educate, based on five plus decades of experience; passing on to my readers not just a How it works, but also a “Why” it works, as well as an explanation of the scientific terminology and chemicals involved with detailing products. I try to write in a way that helps the reader to understand not only "How" to do something, but "Why" they are doing it, along with the technical, scientific facts along with any relevant chemical information, but if you’ve read any of my forum posts / threads you'll already understand just what I mean

I've always believed in empowering my reader’s with facts based on knowledge, experience and scientific facts as opposed to marketing hype and letting them make their own logical decisions. Because I’m passionate about what I do and care about making sure detailing is a safe, fun and rewarding experience for the enthusiast and professional detailer
