Subaru Impreza STI revealed? Possibly. Nope.

var digg_url = 'http://digg.com/design/New_Subaru_Impreza_STI_revealed_in_Japanese_magazine_Pics'; If Japan's Best Car isn't BSing everyone, the car you see in the magazine scans above is the 2008 Subaru Impreza WRX STI. And while it's still a mortal lock to polarize people as much as the Impreza it's based on, we'll go out and say that this looks pretty killer. Sporting the expected high-mount wing, bulging fenders, quad exhaust tips, a substantial front spoiler, and a great-looking set of wheels, this is worlds better-looking than the regular WRX. From the looks of things, the car is also equipped with vented Brembos all around, which is not surprising. Where the WRX looks almost friendly, this thing's menacing, particularly in that dark gray finish.

 •
Engine/Transmission: EJ20 / 6MT
300PS (295 hp) @ 6500 RPM
45 kgm (325 lb-ft) @ 4400 RPM
 • 10.5 km/l (24.7 US MPG) in the Japanese 10-15 mode test cycle
Unfortunately, we don't read Japanese, and that's about all we can glean at this time. If you can read Japanese and are able to add more, feel free to do so in the comments. Now we want to see how this bad boy stacks up against the new Evo. Fun times are coming, kids. Check out the gallery for large versions of the scans.

Re: Subaru Impreza STI Revealed! Maybe

Yes, for all intents and purposes this is what the new STI will look like. I'm awaiting confirmation about the front-end bumper slats and grill. But this is pretty much it. Not too bad afterall...

Re: Subaru Impreza STI Revealed! Maybe

Actually, i read in a greek magazine that there will be no STI edition of the new Impreza. Not even a WRX one. Only in the American market will be used the WRX name to indicate the biggest engine, which won't be so sport-performance oriented as the WRX we are used to.

Re: Subaru Impreza STI Revealed! Maybe

Giannis... I've sat in a right-hand drive 2008 WRX! ;)

There so will be an STI!

The new WRX will continue to make use of the 2.5 litre turbo boxer outside of the JDM. It has a slightly reprofiled engine management system to deliver torque lower down but otherwise it's still a performance WRX.

Thanks Martin, this is great news!

I only have to tell this to those idiots over at the greek CAR Magazine....

One Scoop or Three? Subaru Impreza STi may get "scooplets"

http://www.autoblog.com/category/subaru/

While the world seems to know every minute detail of the new GTR and Evo X prior to their launch at the Tokyo Motor Show in October, there are conflicting views and reports regarding the exact appearance of the upcoming Subaru Impreza STI. Gold alloys or silver? Two exhausts or four? One scoop or three?
Yep, you read that right. At least one of the modelling mules at Subaru's Mitaka design studios appeared to have additional "scooplets" bracketing the tradional STI gaping hole. The picture above is Best Car's rendering of such a set up. We will bring you shots of the real deal just as soon as one is caught in the wild. Promise.

Re: Subaru Impreza STI Revealed! Maybe

For a moment I thought I was looking at a hot hatch version of the Kia Cee'd! :eek2:

I don't know, I am used to the Subaru Impreza being a sedan - not a hatch. But the good news is that this body style - and Subaru's legendary rally/AWD reputation remind of one of the greatest rally cars ever made.

Me too. But I guess after few rallies we'll get used to it. ;)

BTW Nice lights on that Lancia. I guess the co-driver should remember the pacenotes with his eyes closed if you wanted to drive the car on a night-time stage.

Re: Subaru Impreza STI Revealed! Maybe

There is definitely going to be an STi. It is crucial for Subaru to have it. The only time I see no STi is if Subaru pulls out of rallying.

2008 Subaru Impreza WRX STi Scooped In Japan7328d2ef8941664b9c73d3b9cee58456.webpA new set of scoop images featuring a virtually undisguised 2008 Subaru Impreza WRX STi have been circulating in several websites and forums today. Though the pictures are quite small for us to make any safe assumptions, the STi seen here is distinguished by the wider fenders, the quad exhaust pipes and the charcoal alloy rims. Set to be officially unveiled at the October Tokyo Motor Show, the 2008 Impreza WRX STi is expected to be equipped with a 2.5 turbocharged 4-cylinder boxer engine delivering around 300 Hp.

Re: Subaru Impreza STI Revealed! Maybe

I just wish they'd fit conventionally coloured tail-lights "Audi-style" rather than these awful aftermarket riced units. It would transform the back of the car and make it look so much less of a Tokyo special. LED's are one thing but hardly an excuse for a lack of taste. Bugs me. A lot.

This:

I'm sorry but I disagree.
The Lancia Delta S4 was 2 door hatch, and was a Delta in name only.
It, the S4, was actually mid-engine like F1 single seaters and unlike the front engined real Lancia Delta production car, and was both turbocharged and supercharged.

BTW its rival the Peugeot 205 T16 Evo2 was also cool.

Well it was cool nonetheless. :t-cheers:

I grew up watching that thing on TV etc.

Re: Subaru Impreza STI Revealed! Maybe

Seemingly a new STI teaser pic... don't know its source but it looks good enough to post:

It screams ricer because of those cheap looking low-budget-after-market-type of rear lights!

I hope they don't put that in the production version.
