"Pro rally driver and Hoonigan co-founder Ken Block was killed in a snowmobile accident on Monday, Hoonigan and local authorities confirmed.

Block, a prolific figure in the car community, was 55 years old. A co-founder of DC shoes, he moved into the world of rally and quickly made a name for himself, developing the Hoonigan brand and creating the much-loved Gymkhana video series.

"It's with our deepest regrets that we can confirm that Ken Block passed away in a snowmobile accident today," a statement from Hoonigan says. "Ken was a visionary, a pioneer, and an icon. And most importantly, a father and a husband."

The Wasatch County Sheriff's Office in Utah confirmed Block's death in a statement published on Facebook. Block was riding on a steep slope in the Mill Hollow area outside Woodland, Utah at around 2:00 p.m. when his snowmobile "upended, landing on top of him," police said. Block was riding with a group but alone at the time of the incident. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

When he wasn't driving electric stunt cars from Audi or race cars from Porsche, Block spent his time participating in a variety of winter sports, including snowboarding, driving UTVs, and snowmobiling. Block is survived by his wife, Lucy, and three children."

Tragic loss. Unbelievable.😟

(RIP.)

RIP. We are living in a weird time where it seems like people (and more famous people) are passing away in rapid succession from all walks of life. Pope, singers, news people, athletes, race car drivers, you name it. There is a lesson here.

WTF! This is a huge shock.

There was this other famous dude badly injured this week with such a machine too, is this related, and were they together?

It's almost if people have no eternal life.

Damn that sucks, I'd only just started following him on you tube, I was really looking forwards to more content with the Audi.

No, the other person is actor Jeremy Renner. He was riding his snowplough (no, Marcus, not a new 7 Series) and had an accident leading to blunt force trauma reportedly.

I hate snow ploughs, they give me the willies every time I see one coming head on. In my part of Norway the roads are narrow, the blades are wide enough to cover the side of the road they are on and a portion of the oncoming traffics side, if the blade isn't angled properly you end up driving on the verge

2020 started with Kobe. Should we brace for 2023?

Also heard that Jeremy Renner was injured in an accident yesterday.

"Lewis Hamilton pays tribute to ‘dear friend’ Ken Block after rally driver dies in snowmobile accident
Block, a 55-year-old rally car driver and co-founder of Hoonigan and DC shoes, died on Monday

The professional rally driver was riding with a group on the slopes but he was alone at the time of the incident. Officials said he suffered serious injuries and was pronounced dead on the scene.

Seven-time Formula 1 world champion Hamilton, a keen skier and snowboarder, spent time on the slopes with Block in the past and wrote of the “amazing person” Block was.

In a tribute on his Instagram, followed by a photo of the pair on the slopes, Hamilton said: “I’ve been mostly off social media to focus on my health and well being. Today I received news of the loss of a dear friend. I am devastated to hear of Ken Block’s passing."

Etc.

RIP. Had no idea he was the cofounder of DC shoes and Hoonigan.

His first gymkhana video was the one of the earliest examples of seeing quality automotive content drop on the internet using sheer ingenuity in a way I had never seen before.
