The All-new Mercedes-AMG SL (R232)

Almost 70 years ago, a sports car launched in Stuttgart immediately became a legend. The vision of expanding the potential of the Mercedes-Benz brand through motor racing successes produced the first SL as a result - a road-going racing sports car. Shortly after its début in 1952, the 300 SL (internal designation W 194) reaped success after success on the race tracks of the world. In its first year, it achieved, among other things, a spectacular one-two victory in the legendary 24 Hours of Le Mans and even took the first four places in the Nürburgring Grand Jubilee Prize for sports cars. Its successes quickly make the SL a legend.

It's not ugly car, definitely not, it's mighty, it looks badass, it has lovely (currently best) interior... Bravo, MB!

But i just woudn't put an SL badge on it... SL was something different, almost a class of it's own..., This? It's f'n awesome car, just doesn't scream SL to me.

Anyway, well done, MB. :eusa_clap:eusa_clap

The rear end could use some firmer contouring but overall I think this hits the mark. Totally devoid of original styling cues granted but its a looker in my eyes. Finally an SL that can be driven around without excuses. We've been dealing with some questionable detailing since 2009.

I wouldn't mind a less triangular taillights, but I guess then it'd be even more like the AMG GT rear end.

I like it. I wouldn't mind cruising about in it for the next 15 years...that is, if a 911 Cabriolet didn't exist. I mean, I'd be very happy but, knowing myself, I'd wonder what a 911 Cab would be like. I'd probably wonder about all too often.

The official presentation video featuring David Coulthard had me freaked-out for a minute. At the very beginning of the footage with David at the wheel of the grey SL, I thought that it was being driven by an elderly woman. I then, after a moment, realized that it's Mika Häkkinens' ol' teammate Dave. That was some crazy shit coming to light.

The new Mercedes-AMG SL: The new edition of an icon

Affalterbach. The new Mercedes-AMG SL, the new edition of an icon, returns to its roots with a classic soft top and sporty character. At the same time, the luxurious roadster as a 2+2 seater is particularly suitable for everyday use and puts its power down on the road with all-wheel drive for the first time. High-tech components such as the AMG ACTIVE RIDE CONTROL suspension with active anti-roll stabilisation, rear-axle steering, the optionally available AMG ceramic high-performance composite brake system and the standard-fit DIGITAL LIGHT with projection function sharpen the sporty profile. In combination with the AMG 4.0-litre V8 biturbo engine, this results in a driving experience of the highest order. As a consistent Performance Luxury model, Mercedes-AMG in Affalterbach has developed the SL completely independently. Two models with AMG V8 engines will kick off the market launch.
With the five spoke wheels on the drawings it looks even better.

I had a 996 cab and it was wonderful for me at the time, despite the deafening tire noise. This has less of a hunchback so I'm happy with it. I ended up putting in an order for a SL63. I don't think I need to the SL63e with the added weight from the P1 hybrid gear.

Now 911 vs AMG GT? Sorry, the 911's iconic shape in coupe form is too hard to ignore.
