Megane Renault Megane RS Trophy's ring time beats BMW 1-Series M Coupe's

The Renault Mégane, also spelled without the acute accent as Megane, is a small family car produced by Renault since 1996. It is the successor to the Renault 19.

You. The Road. Nothing else.
German magazine Sportauto gets a time of 8:15 with the 1-Series M - seven seconds slower than the Megane RS Trophy's 8:08

German publication Sportauto has released its lap time on the Nürburgring with the BMW 1-Series M Coupe and it comes in at 8 minutes and 15 seconds.

The lap time for the rear-wheel drive 1-Series M beats the all-wheel drive Audi RS3 as well as the 987.5 Porsche Cayman S but it doesn't beat the record-setting run of the Renault Megane RS Trophy last week.

The Megane RS Trophy set a record lap time of 8 minutes and 8 seconds (7.97, actually) - a Nürburgring record for a FWD model.

Sportauto did say that they believed the 1-Series M Coupe's suspension was a little too stiff for a good Nürburgring run and that the car could have used better tires.

The Megane RS Trophy accomplished its feat with road-going Bridgestone RE050A performance tires.

But maybe the different drivers had something to do with it too. It was Renault Sport development driver Laurent Hurgon who set the FWD record with the Megane RS Trophy on June 17.

Once is always off target trying to predict Autosport times based on factory lap times. Depending on how much steroids factories pump into a car before putting it through its paces, there can at times be a 15-20 second difference. Nonetheless the Megane RS is one of my favourite non-German performance hatches.

We will see what happens when it is tested by Sport Auto, until then, this is just marketing. That said, the Megane is one of the few cars left on the market that most certainly is more about the ride than the time it takes to cover the distance. Respect.

Like i said assuming that the both cars are stock.. and the track is dry..there is no way in hell 2 pro drivers can differ over 15 seconds..
If its tuned when renault set the lap time...well then thats end of discussion:)

PS
Love the damn thing though..this might sound superficial..but i love the yellow belts..haha

Yeah Artist, fine. But do we have to believe everything you say or something? There will be a discussion when that Megane is properly tested, before that it is indeed end of discussion..

^haha no man dont belive it..its just the way i see it..
My logic does not add up..the cars that differ over 15-20seconds from factory times..are NOT stock car in both cases..
I can almost bet my left nutt on that..

But yes as of now the discussion about the laptime is done with..

I would be happy even if it came close to the 1M let alone beat it..its a bargain still:)

Walter Rohrl has shown time differences of 11s in factory Carrera GTs in dry conditions. Why does it seem impossible that a less experienced driver, with only a single flying timed lap, might be 4s slower still? Tire pressures alone could be worth 4-5 seconds on a 20.8km lap. Factor in fresh tires, or old tires, vs ones that are in their prime; properly heat cycled tires are still stock. Street alignment vs track alignment (offered by some many sports car manufacturers on their cars). Chris Harris, who has raced there, says 5s differences can be seen in identical conditions; what of slightly different (yet still dry conditions)? Notice that GM/Nissan tend to prefer time attacks in the spring months April-June.

What I want to know is why does the headline say "Renault Megane RS Trophy's ring time beats BMW 1-Series M Coupe", why not beats C63 which is more powerful and expensive... oh wait, the little Renault is also faster than SLK55 BS, E63, SL65... bah, too long, never mind. How about faster than RS3 or TTRS or Cayman S. Or is 1M already the standard?

Renault make the best hot hatches in the world and the RS clio 200 along with the R26R would make my dream garage no doubt, but I seriously doubt that it Could keep up with a 1M on the ring, unless it's using tires made of super glue.

lol some guys mis read the numbers. it is 8:08 mints. the 8 seconds is actually 7.97 and rounded to 8 seconds :D

Sorry Sunny, but this is so childish. I know you love BMW, but the 1M is the reference in the segment the Megane RS belongs to.

Really? So all these years that I thought the Megane RS was doing batlle with the likes of Golf R and Focous RS I was deceiveing myself. I should have my head checked then.

1er is the rival of the Golf and the Focus. Same as with the A3 or the new A-Class. What´s the strange thing here?.

One, that is exactly what I was expressing my surprise over - the 1M is been around for what? couple of months now and it is already being touted as the "reference"? Despite my "love for BMW" even I would't give it that status so soon - hence my surprise.

Second and probably more interesting point, isn't it doubly bad (and hence makes a even better headline) when a car (C63) above this segment is slower than this Renault RS? I bet my lunch that if it was faster than M3 that is what the headline would have been - "Renault RS beats M3 around the ring". Same goes for 911, I bet if it was faster than 911 that is what the headline would have been but it is not faster than either, so they couldn't use those catchy headlines. But it is faster than the C63, but they don't care to use it for headlines - cause it is a Mercedes? I mean, are the expectations really that low when it comes to Mercedes and lap times that it doesn't even make headlines when an underdog beats it?

Oh and third, wtf Renault, please bring this hot hatch over here.

Why a car that is one class or two above another has to perform better on the track and do better lap times?. Generally a smaller car will perform better. I mean, 1M>M3>M5 regarding track performance. Or at least this is how it should be. Why has the new C63 Coupe perform better than this Megane?. We should compare the Laguna Coupe to the C Coupe.

The 1er does compete with the Megane, even being a bit more upmarket. So, if it beats the 1M even being a preliminar result it´s a more fair result than if it beats the S63 AMG or the M5.

Thats what you get for calling yourself the Ultimate Driving Machine..and being so track oriented..
You become a benchmark for better or worse..
In Mercedes case its shining points are quality and comfort..remember when the quality went down..the headlines said (enter crap brand) has better quality than the S Class.. even though it might have had better quality than the 7er to..
Same thing if a lexus has better comfort than everything they will compare it to a benz not a bimmer..

Nothing to worry about..more flattering to be honest :)
