Phantom Rolls-Royce Phantom Facelift

Rolls-Royce has used the Phantom name on full-sized luxury cars and limousines since 1925, making it the longest used car model nameplate in automotive history. In the 20th century, the Rolls-Royce Phantom was a very low volume, hand-built limousine, which in its first four generations was custom coachbuilt to the customer's requests, and sometimes extravagant desires. Whilst automobile manufacturing over time became more mechanised and prolific, and vehicles from other manufacturers could be built in greater numbers and at lower prices, the Phantoms remained hand-built, and production of individual cars only began once the order was placed. The use of the name "Phantom" is a long tradition of naming Rolls-Royce models after ghosts or spirits.

On the eve of the 82nd Geneva International Auto Show, Rolls Royce pulled the sheets off its refreshed Phantom Series II family of cars, which include the four-door Saloon in both regular and extended wheelbase flavors, the Drophead Coupé and Phantom Coupé. This is the first major facelift for the Phantom since the introduction of the series with the sedan model in 2003, which was followed by the convertible in 2007 and the coupe in 2008.

Looking at the Phantom Series II models, the first thing you'll notice is the subtle design changes up front that include new LED headlights and the replacement of the round spots right under with a very thin light strip. Rolls Royce claims that the Series II is the first production car to include full LED headlamps as standard.

The resculptured lower parts of the front and rear bumpers along complete the exterior revisions.

Moving on to the interior, there's a new satellite navigation system updated with functions that include 3D maps with landscape topography, guided tours and enhanced points of interest, as well as composite route planning, all of which are presented on a larger 8.8-inch display, while the British firm also improved the front, rear and top-view camera systems.

The drivetrain improvements concern the introduction of a brand-new 8-speed automatic gearbox along with a new rear differential, which Rolls Royce says help improve the V12's combined fuel consumption by 10 percent and reduce CO2 emissions from 388g/km to 347g/km.

Why the hell did they change the coupe and drop head headlights and uniformise them with the Phantom's ?

Truth of the matter, I prefer the circular headlight of the pre-FL version to this. Everything now is too rectangular.

I was thinking the same thing! Now the only difference between the drophead and the phantom will be the slanting grill.

Anyway, subtle facelift for the Phantom and still the King of this segment.

I will miss the round headlamp. Still, it's timeless design. It will be good for another 10 years.

The first production car in the world to have LED headlights as standard was the R8 V10. Why do they say this is the first?

The interior of this beached Whale looks like it houses the cockpit of a friggin' boat, lol.

I prefer the front off the Pre Face lift...Also the interior the pic above posted by k-A it looks poor...If only MB did a job with the Maybach what idiots they were that they made the Maybach fail....

That interior looks really improved. K-A, stop being a hater, lol. This is a magnificent interior.

However, I do HATE to see the big round lights in the front go. The front looks much more boring and like the Ghost now....not good.

Also, please tell me the V12 is the same one as in the Ghost now, and not that old V12 without turbo tech...

They mean the first car to have full-LED headlights standard. All other cars including Audi, though they have them on almost all models, have them optional. I would not expect anything less on a 400.000 € car.

Yes it would be nice. The RR does not need a V12 to scream as a Ferrari but it need a V12 to move fastly and smouthly, there is no better way than a turbocharged V12.

Yeah, but R8 V10 is just another variant of R8 - which hasn't got LED headlights as standard. Same case with Lexus LS - where the LS600h has LED headlights as standard, but the other LS models don't. While RR Phantom - in all variants - has LEDs as standard. ;) PR tricks, baby, PR tricks. :P

Oh no... I prefer the old one. Of course, it still looks magnificent and is one of the most epic sedans ever, but the headlights look strangely out of place. The new tech is a welcome addition though.

Whether you're a Maybach or Bentley fan there is no argument that the RR Drophead Coupe is an awesome car. It's simply awesome. Unfortunately BMW AG have castrated the two round cannon ball sized head lights that made the car such a striking barge on wheels. Now it looks like it's near ready for retirement.
