XJ [Rumors] The electrified Big Cat - Jaguar's BEV XJ successor

The Jaguar XJ is a series of mid-size/full-size luxury cars produced from 1968 to 2019. It was produced across four basic platform generations (debuting in 1968, 1986, 2003, and 2009) with various updated derivatives of each. From 1970, it was Jaguar's flagship four-door model. The original model was the last Jaguar saloon to have been designed under the leadership of Sir William Lyons, the company's founder, and the model has been featured in countless media and high-profile appearances.

With uncertainties abound (BREXIT, etc.), I find myself rooting for a perceived underdog.

New electric Jaguar XJ: first image - FineAuto

The images presented here are promising and I can only hope that they are more than remotely accurate. A revival of the athletic elegance that made the series I & II XJ6/XJ12s' so very special.

The electric era will level the playing field for many underdog. German car manufacturers will no longer enjoy a widening drivetrain advantage that they have joined for the past 30-40 years.

From a cost point of view you can use the same motors in level cars and flagships, but more of them rather than having to develop 4 and cylinder engines for your cheaper cars and V8 and V12 for large cars.

WHOA !!

Rule Britannia, M****F****** !!!*

*...and no, dear Brits, I'm not attempting to be one of those smarmy Germans:LOL:. Besides, Mr. Avarvarii has obviously sought inspiration in the Taycan/eTron GT J1 platform. So maybe it's "Deutschland über Alles, M****F****** !!!" after all .

...and come to think of it...

Wouldn't this Avarvarii illustration make a fine Bentley 4 door sedoupe EV ?

Sadly, it's a nice render, but, from my perspective, I just don't see this selling well. From that render it has no sensuality, something Jaguars ought to have, particularly in the upper end of their model range.

How has the I-Pace been selling?

Mr. Avarvariis' illustration displays a windscreen heisted from THIS car (and the Porsche Taycan as well):

General proportions are quite similar as well.

Still, I'm impressed. More a rakish, svelte 4 door sedan than a bonafide sedoupe methinks. Very elegant while avoiding extravagance or contrived flamboyancy. In that sense, very befitting for a Jaguar (or perhaps even moreso, a J1/PPE derived Bentley EV).

Alas, as highly competent Mr. Avarvarii is as an automotive illustrator, more than a few of his past renderings have lacked accuracy. But maybe he's nailed it in this case. I'd be good with that !

Shouldn't it be about time for some production-body mule sightings ?

Well ?... Where is it then ? Very little news...no prototype sightings...

I can only speak for Norway where it's doing very well, before I-Pace seeing a Jag was a rare event, now they are everywhere.

Glad to hear. I have to see the sales numbers in the US and elsewhere. But I am glad that Jag has made a successful in-road in electrification.

Agreed. This, and the EQS, are more exciting than the Taycan. Taycan is 4.9m long but does not offer more luxury space than a 4.9m long petrol car

The Taycan is not intended to be a Bat Lounge.

When is the new XJ going to be revealed? Jaguar have made a wise decision to go electric with this car and get a one up on rivals. The next S-class is going to probably be mild hybrid with some models been plug in. The EQS is the model that will be one of the biggest rivals for the Jag. Its going to be interesting in this segment next year. We will have the XJ, EQS, Taycan and Audi E-Tron GT in the electric segment luxury cars that will be a huge rival for the Tesla S.

I wouldn’t consider the Taycan and E-Tron GT luxury cars, they are 4 door sports cars, and the Model S is just plain nasty inside, the only thing remotely luxurious about it is the price. Since Tesla don’t have a new S on the way this model is going to be toast within the next 18 months.
