- Golf R is so slow at the straightline... a previous testcar managed 5,4 and 20,0 sec in the Supertest.
- Golf GTi Clubsport is as quick as the Clubsport S was in the Supertest, also 3,5 sec slower around HHR as it was on semi-slicks!
- Focus RS lacks power above 100 kph.

Too bad Seat Cupra isn't here. Would like to see the car compare with Focus RS since its a candidate for my next car.

The Golfs both are slow around the track, the tyres must have been a big issue, @DeDe you saying they ran semi slicks in this test or previous test of the GTI CS? This is the slowest test yet of the Golf R, that car must have not been a good example. I wonder if the Focus has the highest CD factor and high gearing to make the car slower above 100km/h, it loses ground quite alot to 160km/h and 200km/h.

The Golf had semi-slicks in the Supertest. The Focus' gearing is relatively short, 4th gear is only good up to 193 kph.

Ford mostly claims a lot of bhp but it hasnt. Pretty sure if you put the RS on the rollers you would be glad if you see 320bhp...

It was the same with the previous RS, most of them made only 280-285 bhp instead of 306...

The RS doesnt perform like a 350hp car should especially as it has AWD, I havent seen any mag match Fords claim of 4.7sec from 0-100km/h. I think the fastest has been maybe 5.1sec. Most 300 to 310bhp hatches catch it once it hits 160km/h and 200km/h.

Nono. Both AutoZeitung and AutoBild Sportscars managed 4,7 s with the RS - ABSC did it without Launch Control (with LC it was 4,8). :)

The Pug GTI has such a lightweight chassis and, as I keep saying, that engine is truly a masterpiece with perfect gearing to match! With the smallest engine present here, the Pug GTI manages to be practically 100 kg lighter than the competition, which is HUGE!!!

So, it comes without surprise as the the most frugal, even than the less powerful Clubsport, and the fastest overall in the 18m slalom. Also, it practically matches the Type-R laptime around the HHR, loosing only to the much more powerful AWD cars in the test (even beating the more powerful AWD Golf R), and it's the cheapest to boot.

The Pug GTI is the CLEAR winner here to me and (in pair with the Audi S1) is the most underrated sports car of the moment!

Any antihistaminic I could recommend to you, then? :D

As for the design, could you live with the RCZ R? Same engine masterpiece and matching gearing...

I know it's a bit too much, but nevertheless...

According to the author something was wrong with that Golf GTi CS testcar, it was well behind its own performance-level and not because of the lack of semi-slick tyres.

Just for reference, a comparison with the best laptime after 6 laps for each car, EVO France:
