Macan [Spy Shots] 2018 Macan Facelift

The Porsche Macan is a compact luxury crossover SUV (D-segment) produced by Porsche since 2014. It is the smaller SUV from Porsche below the Cayenne. The first-generation Macan went on production from February 2014 with petrol and diesel engine options. In 2024, Porsche released the second-generation Macan which is a battery electric vehicle built on the dedicated Premium Platform Electric (PPE) EV platform.

2018 Porsche Macan Facelift Spied Undergoing Winter Testing

Porsche revealed the Macan back in 2014, which means it's still a relatively new vehicle. But since a brand new Audi Q5 the Mercedes GLC-Class have joined in, Porsche decided to start work on some updates.

Porsche are rather amazing at facelifting big cars. Just look at the current Cayenne and the Panamera that recently went out of production, the first one. But they are bad at facelifts for smaller ones, like the Boxster. However, the Macan never suffered from being ugly, so its updates are of the less extensive variety.

Our spies were able to snap very detailed photos of this 2018 Macan facelift prototype wearing camouflage over parts of the bumper, the hood and a section of its trunk.

The black prototype features slight revisions to the air intakes, repositioned indicators, and a restyled rear diffuser. As usual, some of the design elements are nearly impossible to describe. No doubt that under the wrap, the new headlights have that X-shaped design you see on the new Panamera.

A base body panel between the taillamps suggests it's possible Porsche will use full-width elements. The interior might also see a bit of de-cluttering, while the latest assistance and safety systems will bring the baby SUV in line with its rivals.

The Macan accounts for a fair chunk of Porsche's sales, but we don't know very much about this facelift at the moment. Our sources have told us the updates will arrive as early as next spring and might include a plug-in hybrid.

But let's not forget that Mercedes-AMG is almost finished developing the GLC 63 which should have 510 PS. Even with the Performance Package, the Macan Turbo can only muster 440 PS. And it's not like there's a quick fix to the issue, because the entire VW group doesn't have a V6 that can match Merc's V8. What it does have is the efficient turbo that went into the S4/S5.

Diesel remains a popular choice with Macan buyers in Europe, so we could see the S Diesel's 258 PS lump being upgraded to a twin-turbo like the one powering many Audis. Let's just hope they don't increase prices by €5,000 like they did with the 911.

This will most likely be in MY19. My dealer told me that MY18 does not have these features. He could be lying to me of course...

When is MY18 due in the US and when would MY19 be expected?
I don't know about the US, but in Sydney, according to my dealer, 1st delivery of MY18 will be 3rd quarter of this year and MY19 is next year, possibly after April. **in his defence, after April can also be December (which I doubt). I'm thinking Aug/Sept 2018 for 1st delivery of MY19 in Australia.

Thanks mate. That's even more relevant to me as I'm based in Brisbane. I'll likely replace my vehilce late this year or early next year. I won't wait around for a FL Macan if it only comes towards the end of next year. I suppose we will have more info later this year. But it's still got a 6 month wait list on orders.

I initially wanted the MY18 (I didn't know what was going to be in this build, but have already heard rumours of facelift). But when he told me carplay enhancement and what not only, and will cost at least $5k more. I was cussing myself for delaying my order LOL :banghead:

Are you kidding! The Macan pricing is already steep as it is.

What options are you getting if you don't mind me asking? It's easy to spend 20k on options on the 3.0 petrol or diesel.

I'm not...they actually brought production forward and "froze" orders til after May (by telling people of a long delay blah blah) so that they have time to prepare the new orders for the MY18.

I got the GTS. As for options, I defo spent abt 20k. Can't remember exactly what I got but...off the top of my head:

Volcanic grey (metallic paint)
RS Spyder black rims
leather and leather and more leather (because the missus says so)
18 way seats
LED (or PDLS which they call it)
panoramic roof
roof rails in black
power steering plus
sport chrono
lane assist
heated seats
adaptive cruise control
smoker package (I don't smoke but i hate "holes" in cars)

I didn't feel the need for PASM or that vecto thing since I live in Sydney. I'll probably go for a long drive every couple of weeks which doesn't justify the need for those. You'll have to track it to be able to fully utilise that or drive like a madman.

Here's a story....

Before I bought this, I was testing the GLC43 at Merc. I have to say, it is a great car, some ugly features (especially the wheel arches), some "poorish" handling (compared to the macan) but I waited really long for it. I was about to sign the papers when the dealbreaker came...1) The engine was not hand built by AMG engineers (I honestly didn't know this at that time). 2) No launch control (FFS it's wearing an AMG badge, a boy will always want his toy). Gutted, I apologised and left. The missus said, why don't we try the Porsche. So we went down there without an appointment, waited about 30mins when a salesperson came and asked if we wanted to take one out to test drive by ourselves first. Took it, tested it, loved it. It feels so much more luxurious, comfortable, smooth, powerful than the Merc. Next thing you know, I handed over my deposit and now the car is on the glorious leader. What a great name for a vessel!

Indeed I can't wait. What about yourself? What happened after your A45? Which Macan are you looking at getting?

After the short lived A45 (4 months) I had an S3 sedan for about 1.5 years and now a 340i for close to 1.5years. I'm tossing up between a Macan S or Audi SQ5. Problem is if I have to wait 6 months for a macan to my specs I think the FL will just be too close. I'm going to price one up and see if they can find one close to my specs. If not I'll probably sit tight or get a new SQ5.

Dealer told me MY18s will probably start in May, so I think MY19 facelift will be announced late this year or early next year and start production around May next year.

Just get the Macan...you'll definitely not regret it. But i'll suggest the GTS over the S. It's specced much better and has a nicer looking styling too. If you were to do the same in the S, it will cost much more than getting the GTS itself.

Not sure if you guys (Aussies only sorry :() have seen this yet. But it highlights what are the changes (specs and price) in the MY18s across the Porsche range - macan included.

It's so difficult to compare specifications between models on Porsche's site apart from engines and performance. I can see the GTS looks different and is .2 seconds faster, but for the life of me I can't see what the other equipment differences are. lol

Your link above is not working.

Don't know why the link can't be pasted. I've pasted again, but added a space. Just remove the space and you should be able to view the site.

Refreshed Porsche Macan spied testing in Europe
Photos continue to suggest that Porsche might have bigger changes for the Macan's rear than the front.

After a few years on the market, Porsche is preparing a refresh for its ultra-popular Macancrossover, and a new batch of spy photos lets us see the updated model in a less snowy environment.

Porsche doesn’t appear to have major aesthetic revisions on the way for its bestselling product. A revised front fascia features skinny intakes in the corners. Our spies also report seeing a small amount of masking around the headlights, which suggests very minor updates for them.

At the rear, Porsche has a strip of camouflage stretching across the taillights and through the center of the hatch. It’s possible that company have a strip of LEDs underneath this covering. The design cue is already on the Panamera and shows up in spy photos of the next-gen 911. Adding the piece to the crossover would give it more of a family resemblance.

Unfortunately, there are still no photos of the interior. A major design overhaul doesn’t seem likely, but Porsche could update the tech, maybe even adding a few capacitive buttons like on the latest Panamera.

Powertrain details are equally hazy. However, Porsche generally finds a way to squeeze a few more ponies out of its engines when the company refreshes vehicles. Like on the rest of the updated Macan, a complete drivetrain overhaul is highly unlikely.

Porsche has an absolutely packed product launch timeline in the next future, and the crowded schedule makes it difficult to estimate a date for the refreshed Macan’s debut. A new Cayenne is also on the way. Plus, the current generation of 911 has the GT2 and refreshed GT3 RS on the way. Spy photos also show the company developing the next 911, possibly even the Turbovariant.
