Since the A7 facelift design was approved last year, Autobild is reporting that Audi has been working heavily on the design of the next generation A7.
Should be coming in three years for the model year 2018.
It will be build on the platform of the Chinese A6L to give it a more distinctive look and more room.

All these renders about new Audis (A7, A9) look to have come out of Citroën's Metropolis concept. Lazy journalism or just coincidence?

My thoughts exactly. All the latest Audi A6 - A9 renders look VERY Citroen-ish.

Very bold, modern & avant-garde styling if true. Especially for Audi.

I have the feeling that, starting with the next A5 and A8, the new Audi designs are going to be class leading.

^ yeah, it will be interesting to see what BMW and Audi come up with design wise. That last A7 render looks fantastic but how far is it from the real car?
All I know is that MB has already lost. I really do hope the new E class comes up with something a bit different looking from the MB standard look that every car has (and I don't like)

I would be worried if I were BMW or MB. The former has completely lost the sould if their designs. I think we currently have the least interesting BMW in years. And MB... Psah. Half of their line up looks ancient (the pre S-Class one: ML, SLK, SL, E family), their small car offering is poor (the A-Class family looks and feels cheap), and their new cars are just a copy paste of the S-Class with very little changes.

BMW still has the driving edge, and MB is producing the class leading cars in terms of fit and finish. But Audi is comming with what looks to be a new (yeah, go figure) design, sportier and more dynamic, and with limitless budget.

As @EnI said a few months back, watch out.

I would like to repost here what EnI said:

It's a tough task for BMW ...

Audi / VAG has been pouring tons of money into D5 A8 development. The new A8 is expected to outshine S-class & 7er in "advanced tech", while the new Phaeton is planned to be on the 7er / S-class level. Very ambitious goal!

Audi is determined to trash 7er & S-class when it hurts the most: BMW in driving dynamics & all-roundness, and MB in comfort & composed ride.

S-class is already here. As it is. OK, new gearbox is coming & new engines too. To give S-class a bit more edge.

7er is coming ... with advanced "intelligent weight reduction" with some CFRP help as well ... New generation of modular engines. Some new ConnectedDrive tech. But nothing really revolutionary. Comfort is better than in F01 but still not on par with S-class. Nor is the luxury opulent cabin ambient. But the car drives much better than F01, better than current rivals.

But as said ... industry rumor has it Audi is coming with a real winner here. The product will be great apparently but will Audi be able to outshine BMW & MB when it comes to marketing & sales. A8 is still lagging behind very much. But insiders say a lot of money will also be invested in marketing & sales by Audi. So the gap is expected to shrink even more.

I guess Piech plays an "all or nothing" game ... and all his, VAG's & Audi's stakes are on "all".

The rumor has it the R&D + marketing + sales costs for the new A8 / Phaeton will exceed the ones of 7er 6 S-class ... COMBINED!!! So that makes you think Audi is dead serious with this project & goal to trash 7er & S-class.

For every upside there is a downside. That particular post has been discussed, and I disagree with pretty much all of it.

I won't lie, if AUDI actually takes such a design leap, consider me a fan. It's been a long while since an AUDI has impressed me. The only new car I actually like (love really) is the A6.

Exactly my thoughts. I would add the A3, which I don't love but find very attractive.

I'm not a fan of it's proportions and it looks VERY bland to me. The only thing I'm happy about the A3 with is it finally has Quattro. The last A3 in the US lacked it. Honestly, without Quattro there isn't event point to own an AUDI.

Agree. While I'm not Deckhook and his infinite love for AWD, I find stupid to pay mountains of money for an FWD Audi (or Mercedes A class family cars, BMW 2er), as you're basically getting a maistream car with fancy interior.

REALLY impressive and exciting design, but it needs to relax. maybe when it comes out the design will look a bit softer and more welcoming

Audi

Audi AG is a German automotive manufacturer of luxury vehicles headquartered in Ingolstadt, Bavaria, Germany. A subsidiary of the Volkswagen Group, the company’s origins date back to the early 20th century and the initial enterprises (Horch and the Audiwerke) founded by engineer August Horch (1868–1951). Two other manufacturers (DKW and Wanderer) also contributed to the foundation of Auto Union in 1932. The modern Audi era began in the 1960s, when Volkswagen acquired Auto Union from Daimler-Benz, and merged it with NSU Motorenwerke in 1969.
