Well this is a complete surprise. I thought Stefano was content with acting as an adviser for Audi and VW's motor sport involvements. This is an ultimate f*ck you to Ferrari and perhaps he will bring Lamborghini to F1 instead of Audi. Imagine Red Bull Lamborghini F1, they already have a similar company logo.

Stefano Domenicali Becomes New President and CEO of Lamborghini

Stefano Domenicali has been announced as the new President and CEO of Lamborghini.

Current CEO Stephan Winkelmann will continue to act as CEO until March 15, at which point he will resign his position to the former boss of Ferrari’s F1 team, Stefano Domenicali.

Winkelmann joined Lamborghini back in 2005 and since has led the company through its most productive period in the company’s history. He will be leaving Lamborghini to become the head of Audi’s high-performance division quattro GmbH.

Winkelmann offered the best to his employees and company, offering the following statement regarding his departure. “I have been responsible for Lamborghini for a significant period of time in its history, and in the process have always aimed to use the brand’s potential to achieve very ambitious goals. I would like to thank everyone for this time from the bottom of my heart,” Winkelmann said.

Stefano Domenicali will leave his post as Audi’s vice president of New Business Initiatives before joining Lamborghini as CEO on March 15.

I wouldn't call it a demotion... 11 years is a long tenure for an executive of a particular division at VAG. Winklemann is now heading to parent Audi to run the Quattro division.

Why was Winkelmann demoted ?

Not sure if you can consider it a demotion, IMO Winkelmann has more responsibilities, working with a much bigger operation and overlooking a bigger profile compare to Lamborghini.

Congrats to Stefano. I am sure the new role will be a breath of fresh air over the piranha club that is Scuderia Ferrari.

I wonder whether he has been hired to help elevate Lamborghini's racing pedigree. It's a terrific brand but has a poser status and lacks the credibility of Ferrari and Porsche.
