It was an eventful first week of February for Mercedes-AMG Motorsport, with a victory in the 12-hour classic at Bathurst, three new records set on the Mount Panorama Circuit and minds concentrated on the launch of the new F1 car.
Preparations for the new F1 season are in full swing at the two factories in Brackley and Brixworth. In just a week’s time, the new Mercedes-AMG F1 W14 E PERFORMANCE will be unveiled to the world media at a digital launch event in Silverstone. The first and only preseason test takes place in Bahrain one week later (23 - 25 February). But the engineers in the technology centres weren’t the only ones working flat out in recent weeks to finalise the new car; the team’s two drivers, Lewis Hamilton and George Russell, were also busy in the cockpit. Last week, George and Lewis completed a two-day tyre test for Pirelli at Le Castellet, and this week (7/8 February) they continued testing for the Italian manufacturer at the Circuito de Jerez. Meanwhile, Mick Schumacher paid a visit to the Brackley factory to have his first seat fitting session. The three drivers will make their first joint appearance of the year on Wednesday 15 February at the unveiling of the team’s new F1 car for 2023. Fans can watch the proceedings via live stream on the team’s social media channels.
