While the F1 teams were busy getting set up in Canada, Mercedes-AMG Motorsport was enjoying a successful start to a new era of the ADAC GT Masters.
F1 returns to the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve on the Île Notre-Dame this coming weekend (16 - 18 June) for the eighth race of the season. This will be the 52nd running of the Canadian Grand Prix, 41 of which have been hosted by Montreal. Of the other 10 races, eight were contested at Mosport and two at Mont-Tremblant.
The two most successful drivers on Canadian soil are Lewis Hamilton and Michael Schumacher, each with a tally of seven victories. Only two others among the current crop of drivers - Fernando Alonso and Max Verstappen - have lifted a winner's trophy in Canada (one each). The two record world championship winners are also tied at the top of the qualifying table: Michael and Lewis with six pole positions each in Montreal.
McLaren's 13 victories put them at the top of the team standings, narrowly ahead of Ferrari on 12. The Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS F1 Team has won four times in Canada so far - 2015, 2016, 2017 and 2019 - each time with Lewis at the wheel of a Silver Arrow.
The track record is held by Sebastian Vettel (Ferrari, 2019) with a time of 1:10.240, while the fastest race lap so far was set by Valtteri Bottas (1:13.078) in 2019 when he was still a Mercedes-AMG F1 driver.
