Tesla Model S Fails To Lap Nurburgring Under Full Power

This is exactly why Tesla only allows auto outlets to do those short distance straight-line comparisons. Just imagine when they start sending Roadsters for reviews.

i don't expect the roadster to be able to do it either, didn't see a whole lot of cooling ducts on it, the nio EP9 on the other hand have lots of cooling ducts

Wonder what excuses the hardcore fanboys will make...

Great in straight line, ass at taking corners. (and completing full laps at a track in general)

makes me appreciate cars like that NIO much more.

Elon will have to do something about cooling as some customers won't tolerate a hypercar that can be driven like one. Performance mean little if reliability and suitability of use is poor.

The car is going to be a model S, but smaller. Elon doesn't have a single clue about cars.

And still, I kinda like Tesla :D

Erm... how many people take their daily drivers to a track? Car forums - sheesh. Transportation device first and foremost, dear readers?

And how many people accelerates from 0-100kmh / 60mph daily in their daily drivers?
Do acceleration times really matter to average Joes? 5.6s vs 5.8s? 1.9s?

Fun fact: There was a period when I visited the track one or two times a week over a period of about a year. With my Clio which was then a bit over 20 years old. During that period I changed the oil once a week and the brake pads about a month. The tyres a bit more.

Now that I think of it, I'm terrified about the money I spent on this!

That's why some magazines do a 5-60mph time, which is more real world since nobody really does a full-bore launch that often.

Yup. If I'm the first one at the light the pedal is going to the metal (unless a cop is somewhere nearby :p )

Basically you are right, Martin... but you don't have to talk about race tracks.
I live in germany. We do have a autobahn, you know
And there a Tesla S - even P100D - is simply a choke. I mean, what a morron is Elon? All the childish talk about insane mode/speed and stuff? In reality a Tesla S is a total fail there. 700hp  0 - 100 might be impressive ... for kids, that do traffic light races from 0 - 70 within city limits. Real world german autobahn means you drive 100 km/h limit, then revocation of speed limit and you can go full throttle for several kilometers.
I had this several times. There a 450hp M4 f.i. totally destroys the 700hp. Already at 200 a M4 is clearly in the lead... gap getting bigger and bigger quite fast.
A P100D even has no chance to follow a high powered 300hp Diesel for a longer high speed run... simply because its batteries go into overheat limp mode.
To be honest: In my eyes this is ridiculous... A 2,3 ton monster with 700hp, which fails on race tracks, fails on highspeed autobahn, fails on long distance travel, but excells in teenager like 0-60 km/h runs at traffic lights... just wow!

Maybe it's time for Tesla to consider vapor chamber cooling or other solutions to heat dispensation.
