7 Series The BMW 7-Series 1977-2015 (e23 - e32 - e38 - e65 - F01)

The BMW 7 Series is a full-size luxury sedan manufactured and marketed by the German automaker BMW since 1977. It is the successor to the BMW E3 "New Six" sedan. The 7 Series is BMW's flagship car and is only available in a sedan bodystyle (including long wheelbase and limousine models). It traditionally introduces technologies and exterior design themes before other models in BMW's lineup.
Gosh, Van Hooydock's car really stands out huh. I wonder what he thinks of it in retrospect.

Ah I remember this vividly Florida early summer 2001. Just one of the many media shoots we done for the E65/E66 7er this was after Swakopmund when one of the models hired to drive the 7er drove it into a ditch which is why main pictures of a 745i were only shot by some angles because of the dent and scratches alongside the front passenger door.
Mishaps aside it would be interesting to know if things were reversed and it was the E65 which was the G11 what would the public reaction be?
Would it be more acceptable in design and technology? Would people be more acceptable to radical design like they were not back in 2001.
In this short film there is no denying this E66 V12 760Li had presence, it was a big car and that allowed the car to penetrate the luxury car market in Asia as it was immensely popular in that region even helping it to outsell both the E32 and E38 to become the best selling BMW ever.
One thing can be said about the Bangle cars is that they do not look completely dated their design has not only stood out but also left a visual landmark in today's automotive horizon.

In the Welt alongside the G11/G12 their way many variations of each of the 7er generations some of which are familiar and some of which that have been forgotten like the 760Li Individual "Yacht Line" which if you even look at the E65 interior it can be from a car today due to its minimalistic controls and luxurious attention to detail. We done quite a few "Yacht Line" cars including one that matched a yacht with exact pearl White paint color and customers coach line.

You dislike the E32 exterior ? Out of curiosity what Bmw do you like ?

I dislike the E32 and the E34. To me they look too transitional between the sporty sharknose of the the E23 (E24 for the 5er) and the more elegant E38 (and E39). And I just don't feel like it got either's best bits. Weirdly enough, I do like the E30 though. Especially the coupe. Idk, maybe that design language works for me better on a small car.

BMW's from about the 50's onward that I do like to varying degrees (I'm only talking about from a design perspective here):

Isetta
503 (IMHO one of the most under appreciated design from BMW)
507
New Class
3200CS
E3
E9
E12
E21
E24
E26
E28
E30
E31
E36 (although this is my least favorite looking 3er, I do still like it overall.)
E36/8
E38
E39
E46 (excluding the compact)
E52
E53
E60/E61
E63/E64
E70 (Non-X5M)
E81/E82/E87/E88
E85/E86
E89 (The design is literally the only thing I like about this car)
E90/E91(LCI only)
E92
F06*
F20/F21
F31
F32
F80
F82

* I think the F12/F13 looks far too big. To me it just doesn't work. If you don't have a sense of scale for their size, I think they look great, but in the real world they just look too large for a 2-door. I think part of this is because they actually are quite large and also that because current design trends (I'm assuming at least partly due to pedistrain safety) make the cars look very puffy.

I think thats all of them.

The E32 still looks amazing. So muscular and unforgiving. Surely a classic.
Just checkout this video of a beautiful E32 I found

To me, E32 is still one of the most attractive big BMW's ever made. Love this car's honest design. It was Derrick's favorite too ;-)

I think the E32 is my favorite 7 series shape of all time. Modern and elegant all rolled in one. If I remembered it also was shown in the first Die Hard movie or The Last Boyscout movies.

The E32 debuted ellipsoid lighting for BMW's but this blue lighting looks like a xenon type filament

Indeed i remember that the E30 had the new light (front and rear) in 1987, after it was introduced to the E32. But i think that xenons wasn't available prior the 1996. So as SCOTT27 stated is a retrofit.
