New Beetle VW to reveal new global Beetle in two weeks on MTV

Herndon, VA – On April 18th, Volkswagen will celebrate the global reveal of the 21st Century Beetle, marking a new chapter in the iconic vehicle's history. The Beetle will be revealed to the public in a spectacular world debut on three continents. The reveal will begin in Shanghai, China with an exclusive MTV Sound System celebration hosted by MTV VJ's, followed by MTV World Stage events in Berlin and New York City.

At the MTV World Stage event in New York City, presented by the 21st Century Beetle, The Black Eyed Peas will perform their most popular hits, including material from their latest album, "The Beginning." At the Berlin MTV World Stage event, Belgian duo 2manydjs will headline and perform a DJ set at the city's E-Werk space. The New York performance will be streamed live on Viacom (except in the UK), with highlights later broadcast on MTV networks around the world, making it the most widely distributed World Stage event to date. Highlights from both the New York and Berlin events will also be available online.

The 21st Century Beetle is an automotive icon, reinvented. Its exterior reinterprets the silhouette of the famous Volkswagen Beetle, combining stylistic elements borrowed from the original coupled with the latest technology. The 2012 Volkswagen Beetle guarantees drivers a fun and unique driving experience.

2012 Volkswagen New Beetle To Be Unveiled At 2011 Shanghai Auto Show

After testing for the past year in front of spy cameras around the world, the next generation of Volkswagen's iconic New Beetle will be unveiled April 18th at the 2011 Shanghai Auto Show. VW will also be showing the car simultaneously in Berlin, New York City, and live on MTV.

According to VW's director of marketing, Luca de Meo, the car is assured success: "We are certain that the car’s one-of-a-kind styling combined with the latest technology will be very well received by customers." That's a bold statement, especially considering the somewhat funky looks of the 2012 New Beetle.

Beyond the unveiling announcement, VW has given us no other details. Nonetheless, we expect the new car to feature a revised suspension and chassis, including a wider track and longer wheelbase. The rear torsion beam will be replaced by a multi-link rear suspension layout, and MacPherson struts will find a home up front.

Powertrains should tap VW's range of small naturally-aspirated and turbocharged engines, with a TDI diesel version possible as well.

Honestly i can't remember any World on Stage event with a BMW Mini;P It's time for the real legend, i have big hopes about the 21st century Beetle. The Mini just got boring, with all the new ridiculous clubman, countryman... even with the ugly rocketman, the Mini is just a wannabe cool;D
