Hasn’t this been discussed before? The question should be: why does Audi use bigger wheels than Mercedes (and everyone else)?
And to that the answer is clear: Audi (and VW) use bigger wheels to visually offset their less than optimal proportions which, in turn, are caused by engine placement ahead of the front axle.

Not really, you are comparing two cars separated by a decade or more.Wheels, not just rims.
The usual maximum in the times of that Mercedes was from 19" to 20", today the measurements increased to 21 "/ 22" and up to 23" which is appreciated in the Audi that if I'm not mistaken they are 22".

I believe that there are currently two 22" rim options for the EQS (one AMG EQS 53-specific) and I suspect that more will follow. It's probably inevitable that some aftermarket rim providers will present 23"-ers in the forseeable future. I seem to recall an Audi spokesperson having mentioned that 23" will be the upper limit for large non-SUV/SAC passenger cars such as the upcoming production version of the "Grand Sphere" and 24"-ers' the top option for the Q9 eTron.
