WorldCarFans.com seeks writer(s) to help cover the daily news.
The prime candidate must be a skillful English language writer and serious car enthusiast who can report on almost any automotive topic. More importantly the candidate must be able to:
  1. quickly identify the most newsworthy topics
  2. extrapolate the key points
  3. put them into context with clear and concise language
  4. proof read (grammar, punctuation and spelling)
  5. publish own mistake-free stories without supervision
We're looking for at least four stories per day, Monday through Friday, during European work hours (preferably UK). Depending on the writer's performance and enthusiasm, up to seven stories may be possible. Other job requirements include:
  • broadband Internet connection
  • basic photo editing skills (resize, crop) using Gimp or Photoshop software
  • Skype VOIP account
  • chat client (e.g. Google Talk, AIM, MSN)
  • sign non-disclosure agreement
Please email your job submission to: contact {at} worldcarfans.com. Please include three sample articles (150 to 300 words) about an emerging news topic. Avoid topics that have already appeared on WCF. The topic should be fresh from within the current day of your submission. Lastly, briefly tell us about yourself. What have you been doing the past few years and what is your experience with autos and writing. Resume/CV will be accepted but not required.
We're looking for someone to start immediately. Application deadline is Friday July 27, 2012. Based on prior experience, we expect a high volume of submissions. As a result, we will NOT be able to respond to all applicants.

I'd love to know what they're offering to pay.
They might pay you money but you'll pay with your dignity. The site has long lost its cred as an authoritative source for accurate rumors*oxymoron*.

I was thinking about both of you guys when I read the advert. It sounds quite demanding though, 4 to 5 stories per day, for the entire working week. Perhaps you guys are able to turn that site around?

AND what better reference that GCF!?(y)

While I'm glad to see that Brian and co are growing their business and willing to add a few new writers to their staff, I much rather prefer you guys stay here in GCF. If you guys are willing and able to commit that amount of work I'm sure we can work out something for you here.. just contact me (or admin :)).

Sounds great! We do have the most capable members and enthusiasts alike. Our own Martin especially has the talent. I always try to do my write-ups and drive tests to his standards (and he'l be always more than welcome to edit them;))
Giannis and the rest of the mods must join in - also those members who fancy a nice write-up and read!

It is demanding and I should no so because I used to be a fashion blogger from 2007-2010 and mark my words it's mentally a full-time job. As a university student it was a brilliant past-time with some amazing perks but I've moved on, and 4-5 articles per week is even a bigger chore, especially in the auto journo arena where "Scoops and timing" is of essence.

I had a look at your fashion blog before, it was very impressive, but it looked very time consuming.

Thanks. I think the problem with worldcarfans is that they've lost some really good writers and passionate enthusiasts which isn't uncommon for news sites and blogs. People tend to enjoy what they do but then they fall in love, get kids or have a change in priorities. It's great that many on this forum are still lingering around though :)

Truer words have never been spoken. Such a 'job' often isn't enough to make a living, and while writing/blogging is a perfect 'hobby' for a student you run out of time soon after.
