xDrive vs Quattro vs 4matic

Hi all,

I am in the market for a daily driver and wanted your opinion on which of these systems are better. Which would you choose and why?

I drive through the mountains and cover close to 800 miles a week. Which is the best system when winter is just around the corner?

thanks!

They're all fantastic systems and have benefits and limitations. If you get a lot of snow, you'll need winter tires regardless. Tires make a HUGE difference.

xDrive and 4Matic work electronically while Quattro is more hardware based with a diff. Don't base your purchase off of the AWD system. Any of the AWD systems with the proper set of tires will handle winter, clearance being the only issue.

So my SQ5 came with Mud and Snow all seasons. Should I be getting a similar setup on the new car?

If you'll be using the car solely in the winter in the snow, tires like Blizzacks are what you want. If you get a boat load of snow and ice, get studded tires.

What conditions will you drive in?
I live in the mid Atlantic and drive west to work every week. I go through the mountains with switch backs and high elevation areas. My fear is snow/ ice and rain especially during the winter and I want to make sure I have the right car/ tire combo for the job
