Last December we brought you spy shots of the next-generation Nissan Patrol SUV, and now images of the 2011 Infiniti QX have emerged, revealing the next-gen luxury SUV to be based on the same platform. The images, captured at what appears to be an invitation-only event, reveal the SUV's large chrome grille and vaguely Kia Soul-like profile.

Earlier this year Nissan ceased production of the QX56 and the Nissan Armada on which it was based, leaving Nissan and Infiniti without a full-size SUV to take their places. As we pointed out last year, however, the next-gen foreign-market Nissan Patrol, is the most likely candidate for a replacement.

Comparing those spy photos to the newly-snapped 2011 Infiniti QX makes it clear that both vehicles wear the same underclothes, though the QX's new grille and headlight treatment definitely set it apart from its workaday cousin. Comparisons to the Nissan Cube and Kia Soul are also likely, as something about the vehicle's proportions remind the eye of those smaller crossover/hatches as well, though that may come down to the odd angles and semi-fish-eye view of the 2011 QX in these grainy shots.

Our sources tell us that the 2011 Infiniti QX is intended as a Range Rover competitor, which could also put it on the same playing field as the Lexus LX10, both of which currently start about $20,000 higher than the phased-out QX56's $56,050 starting price. The entry-level Range Rover Sport, however, starts at just $60,000, leaving the door open for Infiniti to slip in just below Lexus's range-topping SUV.

It's not yet known what sort of power the QX will get, though a big, torquey V-8 is almost a certainty given its place in the market. A 3.0-liter V-6 is also available from the Nissan-Renault alliance, and with the way fuel economy and emissions regulations are going, it could potentially see service in the U.S. as well, making the the QX a potential cross-shop to the Audi Q7 TDI.

With so many variables in the air as to configuration, target market segment, and equipment level, pricing of the 2011 Infiniti QX is anyone's guess, though it'll likely need to stick between the outgoing QX's $56,000 base price and the $80,000 range of the upper-end Lexus and Range Rovers SUVs.

The vehicle isn't expected to make its debut in Infiniti trim until sometime in 2010.

Wholey Smokes!!!!

This things looks awesome! So aggressive, yet still has that solid-build look! It even has blacked-out A-pillars to give a more sporty look.

Infiniti has definitely refined their design philosophy and each car they bring out looks very impressive all-round.

If I could afford this thing, I would bloody-well get it!

Beautiful, I like it! By the passage of time... people will start liking it too! I love the Qx, my bro had one! :usa7uh:

welcome home baby ... we have been waiting for this and the new patrol for ages .. It couldn't come sooner.

we heard alot from Nissan, that this is customized for the ME (Gulf region) and Australia. Off roading is still in mind during development. Still Differentials front and rear, and some nice off road set up. Powerful v8 is promised (Either a 5.0 from Infiniti FX or something totally new).

Aussi members: any love for the Patrol ?

Leaked: 2011 Infiniti QX

Infiniti confirmed earlier this month that a revised version of the company’s flagship QX SUV would bow next year, and now, thanks to a couple of leaked images, we have our first look at the heavily update, full-size luxury ‘ute. The source of the leaked images remains unknown, but it looks as though the shots were taken at a preview event. Whatever the case, the vehicle in question is clearly a revised version of the Infiniti QX56, likely to be labeled as a 2011 model year. Up front, the big ‘ute is in store for a more flowing look. Although Infiniti’s bold grille is still front and center, it’s flanked by more stylized headlights, reminiscent of the recently unveiled Infiniti M sedan. A new bumper also looks to be part of the mix, as well as new fender vents just aft of the front wheels. The rear of the QX also appears to be heavily reworked, feature a design that is slightly suggestive of the Lexus LX. However, a sharp uptick in the QX’s belt line gives it a unique look. No word on when the new Infiniti QX might bow, but expect the SUV to surface at an upcoming U.S. auto show.

Spy Shots

Following an earlier image leak, our spy photographers have caught up with Infiniti’s next-generation QX flagship SUV. Infiniti confirmed earlier this year that a revised version of the company’s flagship QX SUV would bow sometime in 2010.

Even under yards of heavy wrap, there is no doubt what this is: The 2011 Infiniti QX. And these are the very first photos of Infiniti’s flagship SUV out in public and doing real-world testing.

Sources are saying this all-new QX was engineered in Japan and will be riding on a unibody, different from today’s body-on-frame ‘ute.

We’re expecting the new QX to reach dealerships in the second or third quarter of 2010, with a price tag starting in the mid-$50,000 range.

Mouth-watering proportions and stance! The shape resembles that of the Mitsubishi Pajero, which in my opinion was the first proper representation of a sporty-looking 4WD.

On a side not however, someone needs to let Infiniti in on the new psychadelic pattern body tape that BMW have been using. Does a much better job than taping-on numerous black garbage bags all over the car.

Based on the gargantuan Nissan Armada, the Infiniti QX56 is one big beast of an SUV. Especially next to the svelte FX, and even more so now that the EX has joined the line-up. Keeping such a goliath of a truck looking fresh is a challenge unto itself, but Nissan's luxury division is apparently working on it.

The biggest thing to hit Tempe since Super Bowl XXX, this QX test mule was spied by one of our intrepid readers while apparently undergoing hot weather testing around the Phoenix suburb. The vehicle in question, as you can see, is wearing heavy camo, but appears to carry the same pronounced grille as the current model, albeit with more angular headlights to mimic its little brothers. The rear end appears to be undergoing a restyling as well, while the C-pillar-mounted rear door handle – a hallmark of Nissan sport-utes in the Pathfinder family – have apparently moved to the more conventional position. That's about all we can surmise about the behemoth hiding underneath that Michelin Man suit, but you can have a look for yourself in the exclusive gallery of spy shots below.

Sorry but are we really looking to the same car ? :D this looks like shit to me.

I guess development was too far along to cancel this out of touch giant, but it should be something to see. Interior needs the most work vs the previous model. It shouldn't look like a wooded up Armada.

2011 Infiniti QX56 Confirmed For 2010 New York Auto Show Debut

Despite a recent report to the contrary, Nissan and its luxury arm Infiniti have confirmed their full participation at the 2010 New York Auto Show, which kicks off on March 31.

One of the highlights of Nissan’s stand will be the all-new 2011 Infiniti QX56 full-size luxury SUV, which goes on sale across the country this summer.

Last September we brought you some spy shots of the new QX56, which you can still see by clicking here. Around the same time, Nissan ceased production of the current 2010 Infiniti QX56--and the Nissan Armada on which it was based--at its Canton plant in Mississippi.

This is because the new 2011 Infiniti QX56 will be sourced from a Nissan plant in Japan and is most likely to share its running gear with the Patrol full-size SUV sold overseas.

Power will come from the same 5.6-liter V-8 engine found in the 2011 Infiniti M56 and is expected to be rated at more than 400-horsepower.

Our sources tell us that the new QX56 is intended as a Range Rover competitor, which could also put it on the same playing field as the Lexus LX570, both of which currently start about $20,000 higher than the phased-out QX56's $56,050 starting price (pictured). The entry-level Range Rover Sport, however, starts at just $60,000, leaving the door open for Infiniti to slip in just below Lexus's range-topping SUV.

Although we’ve known for a while what the all-new 2011 Infiniti QX56 would look like, the first official photos have finally hit the web ahead of the luxury SUV’s world debut this week at the 2010 New York Auto Show.

The 2011 Infiniti QX56 will be built exclusively in Japan and goes on sale across the country this summer. Nissan ceased production of the current 2010 Infiniti QX56--and the Nissan Armada on which it was based--at its Canton plant in Mississippi last September.

The new model shares its running gear with the Nissan Patrol full-size SUV sold overseas. Power will come from the same 5.6-liter V-8 engine found in the 2011 Infiniti M56 and is expected to be rated at more than 400 horsepower.

Our sources tell us that the new QX56 is intended as a Range Rover competitor, which could also put it on the same playing field as the Lexus LX570, both of which currently start about $20,000 higher than the phased-out 2010 Infiniti QX56's $56,050 starting price. The entry-level Range Rover Sport, however, starts at just $60,000, leaving the door open for Infiniti to just slip into a higher price point.

oh my. That is one ugly massive vehicle.

Those side events look so cheap and like an afterthought. They actually look like those glue on vents people put on their cars to make them look cool.

2011 Infiniti QX56

2011 Infiniti QX56

What's special about it?
The 2011 Infiniti QX56 is a luxury SUV for buyers who don't particularly care what others think about their consumption of natural resources. You want eco-friendly features? Not really going to find them here. A hybrid version? Nope, it's V8 or nothing. Infiniti has basically pinned this QX's hopes on the remaining sliver of the luxury SUV market that just wants all the options and all the power they can get in an eight-passenger sport-utility.

And power they will have thanks to a direct-injection 5.6-liter V8 that delivers 400 horsepower. Matched here in the QX with a new seven-speed automatic transmission, the QX drivetrain delivers 25 percent more power and 10 percent better fuel mileage. So there — it is eco-friendly, sort of.

Two- and four-wheel-drive versions will be available and Infiniti says both will tow up to 8,500 pounds. Infiniti didn't go into much detail about the suspension setup, but we do know that it's a fully independent design that connects to an all-new platform. It will offer an optional Hydraulic Body Motion Control System that counteracts body roll, along with a set of 22-inch wheels and tires.

The cabin is stuffed to the roof with Infiniti's latest electronics. An 8-inch touchscreen display dominates the center stack. All of its various features are accessed by a central controller on the console including real-time weather and traffic, Bluetooth connectivity and a 13-speaker audio system. There's also a long list of alphabet systems like Lane Departure Warning (LDW), Distance Control Assist (DCA) for the cruise control and Forward Collision Warning (FCW). Basically, if Infiniti offers it, it's available on the QX.

And how much would you be willing to pay for all this? Infiniti says the 2WD model will start at $56,700, while the 4WD version will run $59,800 when the 2011 Infiniti QX56 goes on sale this summer. Both prices are essentially unchanged from the current model, so Infiniti has even thrown in a little value proposition for you. Not bad, if you're into this sort of thing.

Inside Line says: One last gasp for the big luxury SUV before government fuel-mileage requirements render vehicles like the 2011 Infiniti QX56 too costly to keep around.
