Alfa Romeo to put 8C Competizione into production!

When you're hot, you're hot. Resurgent Italian automaker Alfa Romeo has earmarked the fabulous Alfa 8C Competizione concept car that debuted at the 2003 Frankfurt show for production.

Showing that he's a genuine car guy, new Alfa CEO Antonio Barravalle says, "We have cut the budget for our advertising campaign and will do the 8C instead, because it is a perfect way to promote the Alfa brand." We couldn't agree more.

The plan is to debut the production version at the Paris show in late September, where the company will start to take orders for a limited production run of 500 coupes. Apparently Barravalle is also considering a future Spider version.

Speculation is that the new 8C will follow the carbon fiber body/spaceframe chassis construction of the concept car, with a 440 hp V8 powerplant based on the current Ferrari-Maserati unit. More pictures of Alfa's road-going glory after the jump.

Re: Alfa Romeo to put 8C Competizione into production!

this is great news, not only for the alfistis! This is a great car from alfa romeo, which i actually like, and will eventually help fiat/A.R. overcome their financial problem.

Re: Alfa Romeo to put 8C Competizione into production!

I agree i think its hot, and very good for Alfa's image.

Re: Alfa Romeo to put 8C Competizione into production!

Great news, I love the car, it deserves the name it has!!:eusa_danc

Re: Alfa Romeo to put 8C Competizione into production!

I'm glad they've decided to build it.

Great little car. :usa7uh:

It looks like baby Ferrari.

But - what would be better: to wear Alfa Romeo or Ferrari badge?

Re: Alfa Romeo to put 8C Competizione into production!

Alfa badge... And it has a Elise look form the rear... I think its great for the image itself.. too cheap looking for a Ferrari. imo

Re: Alfa Romeo to put 8C Competizione into production!

good decision.. ive seen the car irl.. its a real stunner imo

IMO, it would be pointless to wear a Ferrari badge, 8C Competizione is a great history, there are a lot of won races behind that name and Ferrari already has F430...

And I'm loosing respect to Ferrari lately.

Yes, the car has history, it is beautiful, powerful etc.

But will it sell well? Is Alfa Romeo really such a powerful brand to make profit with this car? I'm a bit skeptical.

Unless they will use this car as an investment in the brand: to increase long term brand equity and recognition(especially in the US), then I give thumb up. I hope this equation gives a positive result: that AR will gain more in the end, not just lose money with producing a butique car.

I prefer rationally driven companies - we all know what can happen when a company try to sell CEO's dreams or so called "image car" - remember VW & Pheaton. Great car, but a marketing & financial disaster.

True.
Nevertheless, Alfa Romeo 8C is a product from another time, a time when Alfa was like the Ferrari and Porsche of today.
At one point a version of the 8C was the fastest car in the world.
The 8C also dominated both the european grand prix championship as well as
legendary endurance races such as Le Mans and Mille Miglia.
8C stands for 8 cylinders BTW, its engine was crated by mergeing 2 inline 4 engines, thus optaining an inline 8, and that inline 8 was at its time the greatest engine in the world.
Now can this car mach such a legend of the Auto World ?!

Production Alfa Romeo 8C due later this month?

The production version of the Alfa Romeo 8C Competizione will be unveiled at the Paris Motor Show later this month, according to the latest issue of the U.K.'s AutoExpress. The magazine claims to have spotted the production car at a photo shoot ahead of the show. Alfa will start building the 8C shortly after Paris, the magazine said.

Thanks...I saw that earlier today. I don't know how much truth there is to this though.

Re: Production Alfa Romeo 8C due later this month?

I'd like them to produce this car, but not less than 400hp. This beautiful design and some powerfull engine under the hood and voila!:usa7uh:

Not me... I want to like it, but it just doesn't do it for me.

Re: Production Alfa Romeo 8C due later this month?

Certain details lack some polish, but the sheer sexual thrust of this car easily overwhelms that. This is the Alfa I've been waiting for, and I'm eager to see what the production version (and pricetag) will look like.
